New Pirelli Scorpion A/T Plus Installed

Got a set of the new Pirelli Scorpion All Terrain Plus installed at the local Costco today in P265/70/17. Was looking for a KO2 alternative since they’re stupidly expensive in Canada for some reason. Like almost $300/tire expensive. Ridiculous. Got the P rated for weight savings, only 41 pounds. The E rated was 48 pounds, which isn’t too heavy for a 10 ply. Will update thread after getting some kilometres on them. I couldn’t find any reviews online except for a few auto publications who went to a Pirelli event to test tires, so I’ll see what I can come up with. I’ve also realized I’m not a tire photographer, so I’ll try to get some better pics too.

Wet weather update: Had some rain on the way home from work. There’s a few stretches of highway that have grooves worn in them from traffic which collect standing water. Very annoying to drive through at times. Of course I tried to find the line with the most water and ended up being very impressed with the hydroplane resistance of the Pirellis. They definitely made a bit of noise, as all tires do, when the water got deeper, but there was not really any loss of contact with the road up to 70 mph. I haven’t had any other A/T tire for my 2015, so I don’t have much to compare the Pirellis to other than the shitty Dunlop’s and my Yokohama Ice Guard winters. I’d give the Pirellis a higher score in wet weather performance over the Yokohamas, at least when they’re new. Have to see how they do over time.

They were about $950 plus our stupid 15% sales tax. I’m sure they’d be much more reasonably priced in the US.

 

Those look really nice, give us an update when ya get some miles on them and how well they perform in wet conditions..

Sub'd. I've been looking at these and like you, couldn't find much info other than Pirelli commercials. I've got 20K miles on my stock tires so I' starting to think about what to replace them with.

I'm really interested in wet performance. It's pretty damn wet up here in Vancouver...

 

On road performance seems really good so far, but like I mentioned, I haven’t run any other A/T on this truck yet for comparison. Pirelli says they designed this tire as a 95-5 tire. As in 95% on road use and 5% off road use, so it should perform well on the road.

 

Nice, I almost went with these but decided on the falken mainly because of price and reviews. I’ll be interested to hear how these wear for you, make sure you update as they get miles on them.

How is the road noise on dry roads? Noticeable?

 

Noise isn’t bad. Slightly more noise than my Yokohama winters, but I honestly have to be listening for it to even notice.

 

Those look pretty good. Nice to see pirelli moving into the AT area.

Like you and others, saw these and got interested to see reviews. I'll be watching for updates and input from others as I get ready to replace the original Goodyears on my '16 TRD OR

Any update? How many miles have you put in these so far? Really leaning towards getting these over the falkens.

 

I have about 2500km on the tires now and I still think they’re great street tires. Traction on wet roads is much better than the factory Dunlops, when pulling away from a stop sign and turning right, for example. The Dunlops would spin pretty easily, not so much with the Pirellis.

Road noise is slightly noticeable around town with the windows down, but not excessive. Doesn’t limit conversations or anything like that. I don’t even notice it anymore really.

Still no off-road driving yet, but I’m going out tonight to see an old shipwreck on a dirt trail in the woods, so I may have an update soon. Unless the trail gets too tight and I think I might scratch my truck. Hahah.

 

Has anyone offroaded with these yet? Strongly considering these to replace the OEM tires.

Not much of an update, but I’m still very satisfied with the tires. Did some light off roading, nothin serious. They have tons of grip on hard surfaces. I was going to try them in some mud but I was in the middle of nowhere with just me and my girlfriend so we decided not to.

They’re very stable on dirt roads at 40-50mph also. The stone ejectors also seem to work well at preventing small rocks from sticking between the tread blocks. Did about 10km of well maintained dirt road to get to this cool little waterfalls a few weeks ago...

 

Hit the mud and some snow for us.

I figure new tires in another year since I’m running dedicated snows in the winter.

Stock tires suck in my kind of mud...

 

I’ll try them in some mud someday, but I have a second set of wheels and tires for winter so they probably won’t see any snow.

 

Finally got into a bit of mud yesterday. It’s a hard packed dirt trail that develops a slick muddy layer on the surface when it rains, so not deep mud. The tires did fine but the tread doesn’t clean out well at low speeds. I’m not sure other A/T tires would either, unless they’re the more aggressive hybrid A/Ts. I’m sure some more wheel speed would fix that though, but it wasn’t necessary for the conditions. Actually 2wd was sufficient.
