What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

We all have plenty of devices with accelerometers, those works very well for this. Or just like buy a bubble gauge.

The Turd Gens actually have one built-in to their fancy instrument clusters.

 

Oh crap, I was gonna say come by and I'd have a look but that's a bit of a drive. You make sure the constant power pin in the radio connector isnt wiggly?

 

I just realized the numbers follow the curve of the gauge for the first time. That's visually very annoying.

 

That's exactly why I bought mine. Because it actually looks really cool, and it's definitely a conversation piece. The few people I've had ride in my truck since I've installed it have all commented on it.

It's like aftermarket wheels on your truck. You absolutely do not need fancy SCS wheels, but they look good.

 

A lot of newer Toyotas do that. Here's the FJ instrument cluster.

 

Wider tires need diff wheels tho, these are baby trucks they hardly fit anything bigger than stock without wheels

 

I replaced all connectors, truck side and radio side when I threw in the new head unit. I checked the first connectors on the original unit when I was having this issue and didn’t see anything. Had the radio plugged into the truck and working while I was wiggling and trying to get it to shut off but nothing

Huh, that cluster is just ugly in general. Fake cruiser got some weird stuff going on

 

SCS are pretty cheap as far as wheels go, just hard to get

 

I really like the FJ. You don't see bold-looking SUV's like that anymore. They all look the same.

It's like the N64 of the car industry.

 

Yup, if it slipped back from the retainer it could be intermittent. Did you run a separate ground to a body bolt or use the stock radio ground?

 

16” Steelies are cheaper too.

I can check tomorrow when I rip it back out. Radio is grounded to the factory radio ground, think I should extend it and run it to a bolt ground as well?

 

Or whatever craptastic wheels people put on their trucks that are totally unnecessary.

I for one think most no-name aftermarket wheels people throw on trucks are absolutely hideous. SCS, Method, and other name-brand wheels are pretty nice depending on the application.

I'm happy with my 3rd Gen wheels. They look fugly on 3rd Gens, but pretty nice on 1st Gens.

Of course that's my opinion, and like most of my opinions based on these trucks, people will disagree about it.
