Hip pain when driving Taco?

I never had issues with a car seat before and never test drove for more than 10 minutes.

From what I can tell, it seems to matter with how my right leg lines up with the gas pedal. (It's my right side that feels the pain). It's awkward because at times, I want to take my foot off to move it. But something about the angle I sit in the seat makes it tougher. I think I normally sit with my right legs more outward to the side and with this truck I need to be more straight legged with my knees closer together.

I don't sit on a wallet. I'm a front pocket money clip guy.

It seems that the driver's seat has a degree of "Cinderella effect". I am one of the fortunate ones: my 2017 fits me just right.


I have owned it 9 months and have about 15,000 miles on it. At least weekly, I am in it for a 4 hour round trip on the interstate (with a 3 hour break in the middle). Also, I have driven it on 3 multistate trips, each of which was in excess of 7 hours driving each way. I find the seating position to be very comfortable.

I don't mean to minimize the predicament of those who find the seat uncomfortable, which is compounded by its limited adjustment capabilities. Just saying that the seat works great for some.

 

I'm not a huge fanboy, so I will bitch when it's warranted. And in spite of your impassioned defence, the Taco seat is still crap. And still not worthy of a 40K vehicle. Don't blame the god Toyota? Please.............

I'm older than you and didn't like seating position I'm 5'7 195lb so felt like I was in a sports car setting low, did the 1in seat lift and it made a difference for me, you could try it and if it doesn't work , go back normal I made my own out of 1in. tubing with a insert to keep it from collapsing, and longer bolts to accommodate the extra length. I cannot remember the MM thread count or length I'd have to check on it, did it a while back. O yea, I drive F150 at work and I have seat cushions so its not just one brand, love my Tacoma tho.

After a shifted tailbone and spinal compression fracture, I cant drive more than 30minutes without pain............. I just a few yrs ago was able to do 16hrs to oregon in a snowstorm, it sucks!! crossing the fingars!

 

Lol $40K really? That is price of average vehicle now. As far as seat comfort, everyone is different.

And, if you are gonna bitch, bitch for the right reason about people going for one 10 minute test drive instead of multiple test drives and then complaining about seats and transmissions. Not saying this OP did it wrong but 90% of the bitch threads are because lack of initial seat time.

 

Don't know who or how many might be helped by them, but Wet Okole seat covers add a 1/2 of neoprene to the equation. Rather plush compared to stock Taco seating, IMO. Downside is they heat your ass up in the summer, literally. I'm thinking they're going to be great come winter, however.

 

@dd564, I did the seat spacers thinking it would not help. I was wrong.

 

A half inch thick seat cushion makes a world of difference.

 

Same here. My legs don't touch the seat from behind my knees to about 5" back from the front edge. It really kinda forces you to move the seat further back than you'd like. I've wondered if this is to "force" you away from the airbag?

 

I have bad hips, back, knees and elbows... That comes from lifting bailey bridge sections in my younger days...
I can still sit comfortable in my Taco

 

I can't complain, my wife has to use a cushion to sit on in her Masserati...........

I've had lower back and knee pain after driving since I got the truck. Thought I'd get used to it but I didn't. I narrowed it down to my legs not resting on the seat because I'm 6'3" and my knees bend more. I found an old lumbar support I had and strapped it to the front of the seat and it fixed the problem. It doesn't move around, and because it's attached to the seat I can flip it down out of the way if I don't want to use it.

 

Just look at that picture and it's a thousand words. The seat back is too low and the front of the seat presses against the underside of your thigh. Nerves and blood vessels are compressed as you tense your back to compensate.

My back is in great shape, doesn't hurt deadlifting or squatting but a 5 hour road trip is murder.

 

So are you saying you think I made it worse? I had pain because there was a gap between my thigh and the seat and letting my legs relax left them in an awkward position. The lumbar cushion fills that gap but doesn't push against me. Plus I adjust the seat's lumbar support out to keep me from slouching.
