Utility Seat Covers / Easy On-and-Off

Got my new hunting dog, Calli, a Pudelpointer (German versatile breed), in June. She's 5+ months old now and has been out on a couple of hunts. Lots to learn, both her and me as I've never had a pointer, but I'm softening on my long held position that dogs belong in the bed of a truck, not the cab.

After a couple of throw-ups in the crate on our way over to eastern WA this past week, I let her ride in the front seat and she was so calm and well behaved that it might become a semi-permanent arrangement. Plus, I really liked her company, even though she's not much of a conversationalist just yet. If it's just Calli and me, she'll ride in the front seat; if there's someone along for the hunt, she might have to ride in the back seat. Worst case she'll have to go back to the bed in a crate (my truck has a canopy on it during hunting season).

I'm looking for some easy on and off seat covers that will only be used for dog transport. I don't care about the aesthetics, just their functionality and durability. Cost not especially important, although would like to keep the number below $200.

Anyone else addressed this kind of need and are happy with their result? What do you recommend? Thanks!

(And, yes, I've checked other threads but none seemed to focus on this particular need.)

 

Check out my thread here. I put some inexpensive seat covers in the front and back that would work for a dog. The backseat cover is made for dogs and is pretty awesome for the price point. The front seat covers are pretty grippy and don't slide around too much. They might work for a dog depending on how big it is and how long it's nails are. Those were cheap as dirt and are holding up well.

They come off in less than a minute. Very easy and durable.

 

They would be nice unless you have a dog like mine (beagle) whom I swear does backflips and laps in the backseat while I drive. My worry is that he will scratch the back (leather) of my front seats. A cover like that that includes the whole front seat would be awesome!

Almost considered one of these, but ended up going with ruff tuff custom seat covers.

I also bought a cheap back seat cover from Amazon and ive had it for a couple months now with no complaints. I put a lot of gear in and out the back seats throughout the week at work and its still holding up fine.

 

This is what you want. Easy on and off faster than anything. Stash quickly behind back seats.

Thanks to all for your recommendations. I'm sure all would work well for my situation. I went with a set of 4Knines (front passenger, full back seat w/hammock) that I ordered from Amazon. Supposed to be here later today. Will install sometime soon and report back.

While I've been around this site and similar others for awhile, I've never learned how to attach a photo. But no time like the present . . .
She's about 4.5 mos. in this photo. Now about 38 lbs. and 5.5 mos. old. Tall and lanky, like many pointers, she'll be 50 - 55 lbs. when grown, and her coat may get more wiry as she matures. With the disposition and train-ability of a Lab, she doesn't shed, and she points and retrieves on land and in water. We've had Labs for the past 35 years and this is my first pointer. My wife and I couldn't be happier with this addition to the family.

 

Bad syntax in previous post. Calli doesn't really point on water, but she does retrieve in water.

She's adorable!! I have a Pit/Beagle mix that is a 'backseat driver'. I used to work at Petco and got a great discount on a seat cover there. I had one that was like the cover in the thread posted above...but since I drive a little rough,I found that she would often end up in between the front and back seat lol

I ended up with one that attaches to the front seat as well as the back, to make a sort of 'hammock'. Works amazing,keeps her fur back there(horrible shedder) as well as her nosey self,and it's easy and quick to take off and throw in the washer.

 

Here's my first-use report on the set of 4Knines (front passenger, full back seat w/hammock) that I ordered from Amazon. Today a friend and I drove to the Cle Elum, WA area (central WA) to do a little grouse hunting. We took his Brittany and my 5.5 month old Pudelpointer, Calli, who rode together in the covered back seat. Both are small-ish dogs and could easily share the back seat, which was covered with the hammock feature deployed. Unfortunately Calli 'tossed her cookies' onto the cover about 75 miles into the trip. It took me about 5 minutes to clean up the worst of it, and I'll hose it off tomorrow for the final cleanup. The hammock feature worked well to contain this little mess, as well as to keep both dogs from climbing into the front part of the cab. Calli found her way into the front seats whenever my friend and I left the car, but that's no reflection on the seat covers. My review is that these covers are well made, easy to install and remove, contained the mess of dog vomit and dog hair (the Brittany's, as Calli doesn't shed), as well as helping to keep the dog(s) restrained to the rear seat. For just under $100, I am very satisfied. It's too early to assess their long term durability.
