I have been considering a new Tacoma for the past month and the inventory certainly isn't dwindling. I'd probably buy the Pro, if Southeast Toyota would offer the 1.9% rate, and come down on the price. They can keep it. I will say that I like the way they drive but I did have to step on it to get it rolling. Anyhow, I was walking in to work the other day and met a guy who just bought a new Taco. I asked him how he liked it, and he replied, "It's nice but it doesn't have any balls." Heh, from my test drive, I thought the power was good when I wound it out. Sales guy was gripping the door handle. :burnrubber:

So there's no room for difference of opinions on this forum. That's sad.

Gas mileage in the Tundra is bout the same compared to a F-350 quad cab twin turbo diesel 4x4 dually. Just easier to park in a normal parking spot.

So i did. I'm still at a loss at what you're talking about. I've broken more keys in ignitions then I have replaced fob batteries. So what's the scoop, man?

I definitely used the search function - yes I found a few posts but none that answered my questions - so I posted. This is what the forum is for.

I wouldn't let fuel cost be a deterring factor. I just bought the Tundra, and I am not paying that much more for fuel unless I drive exclusively in the city. On long highway stretches, I can get about 18 mpg without babying it. I traded my gen 2 for it and I have no regrets whatsoever. I wouldn't rule it out just yet.

Thanks to everyone who contributed to my post in a positive manner. I am closing out my part of the discussion because its been resolved - keeping the taco. One last point to make for those people that wonder why there is concern about the vehicle; this year alone, there has been 13 service bulletins for the Tacoma - if you dont believe me, then see the list here: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/list-of-t-sbs-etc.562671/

And when you consider all the bulletins for 3rd gen, its an extensive list. There are people who are genuinely unhappy with this vehicle, and its not listed very high on Consumers Reports. This is surprising to me with the reputation that Toyota has. Yes, I am one of the people that didnt do my research - but posting questions and reading other posts on this forum is helping me wrap my head around this vehicle I bought on an impulse.

Funny thing is my 3rd gen with sliders, bumper, winch, armor, tonneau, 33's and the OVTune was getting around 13.5/14 MPG with lite throttle. I get about the same with the Tundra and 33's. My Tacoma was never good on gas though.

Today I learned that you could get a 4x4 access cab tundra with the 4.7L V8 and a 6-speed manual (1st Gen)

    :drool::drool::drool:

If I didn't have to pay for gas I'd be all over one of those....

This was never a factory option for the first gen.

Go in for TSB 0062-18, I’m currently sitting in the dealership waiting for them to flash the ecu, I will advise once the work is done. I have had three previous 2nd gens and loved them all, this 2017 transmission issue sucks to say the least. I’m hoping the flash makes this truck fun to drive like my previous three tacomas

after owning three 2nd gens, there is a night and day difference between 2nd and third gen, shifting in the 1500 rpm range sucks balls in all gears, never seen a vehicle that revs at 1500 and doesn’t accelerate until it hits 2,000-2,500 rpm’s, hunts for gears climbing. This will be my last tacoma if the tsb doesn’t fix this truck. Sitting in the dealership now waiting for the update.

For what it worth the third gen Taco is actually faster 0-60 and in the 1/4 mile than the Tundra. No idea how a V8 is slower. I went from a JK with E rated 35's, full armor, prob 600+ LBS and was a good 2 seconds faster 0-60 and the throttle worked when you pressed it unlike the Toyota which just sits there.

Did you actually take the time to go through the TSBs?

Haha... the great majority of those TSB’s are “pacifiers for the crying babies”.

Toyota is so good that it even tries to keep the snowflakes happy.

I second this. I bought a Tundra honestly because someone was selling a very well taken care of TRD crew max 4x4 for pennies on the dollar, and it's sad for a truck that was $14K more than my 3rd gen OR, it doesn't have any basic features my OR has. No defog mirrors, sun roof, there's not even a damn push button start wtf. The interface is old as hell and has gigantic cartoonish sized plastic knobs for temperature without even a temperature gauge. I even just noticed that the TPMS is basic and doesn't even tell you the tire pressure of each tire. If my basic Tundra was $43K, I can't imagine what the equivalent is for the features I have in my Tacoma.

To me it's all about the size you need. If someone is unhappy about shifting in a Tacoma, a Tundra isn't your solution. A Tundra is your solution if you're a big/tall person or need a lot more cab space. It's also your solution if you need a little bit bigger bed and towing capacity. The only thing they have in common is they are Toyota. If you want a Tacoma equivalent you're going to have to look outside of Toyota.

I saw a video where the 3rd gen took the Tundra also. I know if you do not shut down traction control the Tundra brakes hard from a launch. Pretty sure TC was still on.
