I often wonder how many mall crawlers here will later regret the $5-10k they spent making their trucks look cool and the cost come time to trade, debt, etc. I understand the bug for modding, but how many here are honest with themselves and think "hmm, is it worth $5000 to lift my truck when I don't off road, will decrease my resale value, increase wear and tear on my vehicle, etc." that $5000 could be better spent paying off the truck, investing, saving, life experience, etc. But that's me assuming most here don't have the disposable income to do so and are putting it on the credit card. Alright, off my soapbox.

Uh even if you use the mods, they are still very expensive.
I don’t regret modding my F250 with I think I tallied it to $15k worth of shit not including initial buy cost and sold it for $12k. Still burns but I don’t regret it.
Will I be doing it again any time soon?
    No LOL.
Taco mods will be minor and realistic and... all cash.

Never go into any kind of debt for vehicles. Not by loans or credit cards.

In my particular case, my decision to trade was based on buyer's remorse over the Tacoma. I didn't test drive it long enough.

    - Poor headroom w/moon roof (I'm 6 even, and didn't notice the headroom issue until after finding the best seat settings over the course of a couple weeks)
    - Uncomfortable seat with limited adjustability
    - No full time 4wd (constantly hunting for traction when turning onto wet roads and accelerating)

Lesson learned for me is to be more thorough during test drives.

What'd ya trade for? I don't blame you, I traded my 11 Tacoma for a new 14 Silverado after a 15 min test drive. An hour after driving it home I had huge buyer's remorse, traded back to a tacoma 4 months later and just ate the loss.

To the OP, the problem is that your vehicle is too new. So it is hard for the dealer to sell a used '18 while they can sell a new '18. Unless there is a significant difference, a customer will buy the new one. I have been trying to sell a used 2017 vehicle and the answer is to wait until '17 are all out of the dealerships.

I picked up a new 4Runner Limited. Fulltime 4wd and very comfortable. Even turning onto wet roads from a stop you can accelerate pretty aggressively and the back end stays put.

Tacoma is a great truck, and if I absolutely needed a midsize pickup, it's what I'd own.

Because dealers make much more on servicing/up selling warranties and extras than on actual vehicles sales margin wise. Margins on new vehicles are some of the lowest compared to any other business. That's why they make it up on bundles/ packages when it comes to service and "outlandish" OEM parts pricing.

Do you sit bolt upright hugging the steering wheel? I'm 6'3" and have plenty of headroom and I have the moonroof.

    That HURTS....and though dealers will one degree or another use KBB (Private sales I think it applies better), it is not the Gospel. It's just like credit scores, e.g. CreditKarma uses a VantageScore 3.0 system Equifax/TransUnion, and we have Experian out there along with FICO which is on version 9... Good short article here;

You lost me on, "That HURTS". I only lost $7k in almost 6 years. That is really good.

I know they generally hold their value to a point. when I was looking for a used 2015, they were only a few grand less than my 2016 was new so I bought new.... but my KBB might be less than others due to my mileage. Kinda lame though, trade in is less than $20k

Speaking about KBB value & your accident and what Insurance was willing to pay out... I squeaked the Credit Score data in there to reflect how numbers differ which confused I assume.

"My insurance company paid what it was worth according to a 3rd party estimator, not KBB or NADA. I just knew I was going to get ripped."

It's a truck not an AWD sports car. Accelerating when turning on wet roads will cause traction issues in lots of vehicles.

When I test drove the taco there were smooth roads everywhere. Not until I drove home and to work next day I realized my head would rub or bump into headliner on med-large bumps or imperfections. So now I sit leaning to the right where moonroof has a slightly better gap. There was one time I went over some train tracks kinda fast, thought my head was going to go thru the moonroof. Lol. I love my taco it’s just getting annoying with driver position.

I am not a fan of sunroofs. I really don't like them in a truck. It is a truck
