I am afraid people would be bored by it since it is basically just body work. If I decide to do any custom front end setup, I might. TBD on $$$.

Made some progress this morning. Gonna get the tractor out after lunch and do some "exploratory pulling" on the front end. I'd like to save the radiator supports and that front body panel due to all of the spot welded brackets I wouldn't have to reattach.

My biggest fear was the relay box had severe damage. Yes, it did. May still be functional, but the housing is damaged pretty bad. Frame is okay (body mount tore loose relieving strain). Upr/Lwr control arms fine.

Ahhh that thing is fine. Just get a new fender apron, radiator support, and front end.

Just curious, you bought that from a junkyard? I assume it’ll carry a salvage title.

That was a reply to @JOSHCOOK suggesting I start a build thread. Wrong quote.

Clean title. I got lucky. The guy only had liability insurance and he had the truck towed straight from crash to the yard. I bought it the next day.

Did you buy it from the owner, or from the yard? What’s the story?

Didn't that dude with the badass 3rd gen t4r post a video of a jeep rollover on black bear this year because the fuckers were drunk? Idiots ruin it for the rest of us.

Well now you have me not lusting after the Alpine Loop. Though from the things I have been reading, it won't be the only thing I will want to hit when I'm out there again. I already know Wheeler Lake is on my list based on our discussions while I was in Breck though.

    You mean this one?

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x6icPNHXKY0

Not sure, there was a Nissan that was way off trail and crashed this year, and I had heard alcohol was invovled.

The Alpine Loop is awesome, don't get me wrong, but it's like Disney land compared to the rest of the wheeling here in Colorado.

There's trails that are just as good if not better that get 1/1000th the amount of traffic and idiots in rental jeeps and SxSs.

No, replacing the hub is a 2nd gen thing. The bearing is pressed into the spindle so there is no unbolt/bolt a new bearing in. If you blow the bearing and the inner race stays on the hub(part with the studs) it can be a pain to cut the race off without damaging too much of the hub but is definitely doable. That would be the only reason I could see needing a new hub on a first gen.

There was an incident with a side by side and an xterra this year. I think the sxs was drunk and going the wrong way in the one way.

Also an fj flopped because of inexperience on the only "technical" section there is. 5th gen 4r did the same last year in the same spot.

    Confirmed. DUI on black bear.

That road will be closed sooner than later. The sherriff is in a tizzy every time something goes wrong on that road. Don't blame them really, given there's multiple stupid accidents every year.

before you go balls deep in the wheel bearing make sure to jack up your truck and spin the wheel. If it makes any humming sound it’s most likely the bearing if not then the problem is somewhere else. Sometimes there will be play in the wheel to but when mine started to go there was no play but it definitely made a noise.

I figure I'll start the trip with the Alpine Loop and then follow your recommendations. You know my tastes. :p

Hopefully the Kokopelli crew can show me around, provided @Reh5108 fixes all of his hundred maintenance issues.

LOL, I was wondering about the dupe posts.

Oops, I ordered the hub assemblies before I read the responses ...
