Yeah super glad it wasn't one of those. I live like 4 blocks from it.

Everyone keep your ears open for me! I am on the lookout for a stock or TRD exhaust for a 2nd Gen DCSB. Actually pretty much any exhaust except for some blowmaster frankenstein setup will do... Thinking of changing some stuff up!

    Tanka!

Did it wake you up? I imagine that had to be really loud. 3.1 million in damages and expenses to get the line open again. Only took 23 hours to get the rail fixed though

Lol no, not anymore. When I was a field officer with BNSF I responded to that kind of stuff in person. However, with my new job I am damage control. I worked that night. The Stillwater county sheriff's department was the first to contact us believe it or not. They knew that we were on the ground before our train crew did. I fielded that call from dispatch. My job in that moment is to figure out where to put all of the trains currently running online, coordinate with the BNSF in regards to rerouting traffic away from us, and coordinate getting the heavy machinery to the area for cleanup. All while trying to keep the public safe and "happy" (aka keeping crossings clear). These types of events is when my job becomes really stressful/important.

We were awake still. Was pretty damn loud. Even though I was a bit further from the actual derailment.

I wish it had taken them longer. Was super nice to sleep without the fuckin trains. I hate how they get to blow through at 45mph and just lean on the horns for miles at 2am. Fucking so annoying.

    Ah nice.

The dipshit that they had doing traffic the morning after sucked. He only controlled it going over the rails and not the intersection before the rails. So it was super backed up for a long time. First time I've had traffic here though lol

Tell them to not blast their horns for so long too while you're at it haha

Lol tell your local municipality to install quiet zones! The crews would gladly stay off the whistle... Well some would... I don't know the whistle zones off the top of my head over there though. That sound reeeally carries at night though. That part does suck.

you can hear them coming miles away and if they are coming from the west it ping pongs around the hills. Kind of cool.

Just not in the middle of the night ha

Yeah, and we're not breaking any land speed records through those canyons. We're required to continuously sound the whistle from when the cow catcher enters the crossing until the head end clears the other end of the crossing per the FRA. When a train is only moving 15mph that can prove rather lengthy... We strive to allow people to get as little sleep as possible

If we don't sound the whistle for crossings then we would be fired. FRA rules. The only quiet zones on our lines that I know of are in billings and helena. Its super pricey to have them installed though. Insurance is really high

The only thing installed is a flashing red x to let the train know the crossing is functioning properly. The insurance is paid by the town/county and is so expensive because it puts liability of a crash on the city/county instead of the railroad.

Interesting. Well explains that. Stillwater is a poor county so not gonna happen there!

No official word yet. My best guess based on experience would be broken rail or possibly a switch that had a gap in it that a car may have picked.

Thanks, those rails must take a hell of a daily beating from the coal trains headed West.
