I’m so excited I am not sure if I have something wrong with me or not?
    It’s a truck right?
I’ve stayed awake worrying about a bad frame! Then when I was told I’d get a frame I stayed awake worrying about what could go wrong.
    Lol being ANal I guess!

Just brought my 2010 Tacoma Double Cab in to the dealer for what I thought was going to be the undercoating application...A day later received a call that during the cleaning of the frame they discovered some significant "perforations" and will be going forward with a full frame replacement. Will keep the board posted once completed.

Still haven't brought mine in because I kind of thought it just looked like a lot of surface rust. This thread makes me think I will likely get a new frame unless the dealer cheaps out. How long does a frame replacement take? I use the truck for work so kind of can't be without it too long.

If you legitimately use the truck as a truck then insist that the loaner is another truck and not a yaris. Dealer has to give you a courtesy vehicle for the duration if they don't have any loaner trucks they can get you one from a rental company, every dealer has a relationship with a car rental outfit for these occasions. Also since Toyota is footing the bill for it all you can call them to make sure the dealer gets you a truck or that they reimburse you for a rental you get yourself.

    What Igor said.

My dealership put me in a brand new Tacoma Double Cab with all the trimmings for 2.5 months while we waited for my frame to be delivered and installed. Insist on a truck and you will get one. (Yaris - sheesh!)

This whole thing is the result of multiple class action suites. Keep in mind that most users on the site are covered by the American settlement. The Canadian settlement just occurred, whereas the US one occurred a while back, so their timeline is accelerated compared to the Canadian guys. It is a separate settlement that occurred in a completely different and independent legal system, that said, it’s clear that the American settlement was used as a template. Expect overarching similarities, but don’t be surprised if some of the details are different.

The good news? The Canadian settlement appears to go all the way back to 2005 and owners have a year from notice to have their truck inspected. I *think* that the early Gen 2 trucks in the US are no longer covered.

The bad news is that we only get a replacement vehicle for one week. Toyota does not have a legal obligation beyond that.

You can find more details here: http://www.toyotaframesettlement.ca/

I got a brand new frame as well! 06 with 160k on it! Very happy with the results. It took them about a month to do it, they gave me a brand new Camry in the meantime. Not going to lie, I kind of started to like it and the gas mileage lol

Do you know your "in-service date"? I just had my frame inspected a few days ago on a 2006 with an in-service date of 10-1-06. Unless your in-service date is after 9-27-06, you are too late to meet the 12-year requirement.

Got my truck back on thursday
    Before.....
    8-18 016.jpg

    After.....
    9-21-18 006.jpg

They replaced my wheeler's heavy duty 4 leaf pack with the toyota piece of shit springs without even asking me! Now it looks like a sad ford ranger with it's ass hanging on the ground! WTF!
Luckily they were able to find my springs from the scrap pile and offered to replace them for $250. Not happening. I put them in the back of the truck and headed home. I noticed the brakes felt "different" but I figured it was because I had been use to driving around in a new camry with great brakes for the last two weeks. Then the pedal went almost to the floor. I pulled over and checked for leaks, nothing. Then I popped the hood and found the master cylinder res filled to the top and overflowing. At this point I lost my fucking mind.
Called back and told them where I was and what I had found. The guy said "sometimes it's hard to get all the air out of the lines" No shit!
He offerd to have someone come out and drive the truck back to the dealership and I could pick it up tomorrow. I don't remember exactly what I said to that but I remember calling them a bunch of fucking hacks before hanging up. I was able to clean up the brake fluid before it did any damage to the paint on the inner fender and then decided to drive it home. I'm still in shock that someone would just let that go out the door in that condition. Looks like I'm bleeding brakes and changing springs this weekend, wonder what else I'm gonna find....

Well that was some interesting reading. All 29 pages!! I wanted to get a full scope because I just found myself in an anxious position. I took my 09 Access Cab to the dealership for the leaf recall, said hey while it's up look into the frame. Ok we looked it's all good. But we found this this and this. No don't do it I'll replace my own shocks. GTFO with that rediculous charge for shit shocks. Alright. Fast forward to this year I take it in for inspection. A week out from running out of inspection. Tech said hey found a hole in your muffler, had been there last year and tech looked passed it. So I get a sweet Delta series 50 Flowmaster put on. Sounds goooood. Take it to a small shop near work bc I have days now until running out of inspection. Think it should be all good. NOPE. Hey we found a hole in your frame we can't pass this for inspection. WHAAAAT THE FFFFFFF!!?? Telling me a small mom and pop shop found a discolored rust stop, put a finger in and opened up a virgin size vagina hole?? Right into the dealership, fired up. They put it up on the lift take pictures and say we have to wait for corporate to approve or deny. Well it won't pass inspection, I'm now out of inspection, and I can drive it home. Oh and just show the cop the ticket we have for you open when you get pulled over because your inspection is out. Dealerships are infuriating!!!! Told em that if they try and put me in a corolla I'm throwing dead deer in the truck and they'll have a mess to clean up. It's hunting season and there's a reason I have a truck. Anxiously awaiting corporate to 'approve' the work. Thanks for listening. Feel better.

Honestly surprised they made you “wait for approval” the Toyota dealership here in Charleston SC gave me a loaner right away as soon as they found rust holes on my frame. They said it’s too much of a liability to let me have the truck back until the frame is replaced. And that’s coming from Toyota corporate in the warranty paperwork.

@YotaProject EXACTLY!! Plus it's out of inspection, because of the hole in the frame. This particular dealership(Bennet in Lebanon PA) recently changed hands and are being hella shistey with their loaners.

Here’s all the proof you need. This is the paper work directly from Toyota that they sent to all dealerships. On page 3 it says offer the customer alternate transportation until the frame replacement is complete https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B2URUkJsuJkedmtWWEM5STZENHM/view

Right so are they pulling my chain by giving me the line about "oh we don't make the call, we have to send pictures to the bigwigs at corporate for them to make the call" Which seems like bullsh+t since my hole is bigger than 10mm, in the affected area, and won't pass inspection because of it. This right here boys and girls, is what gives dealerships a terrible name!

I just left my Toyota dealer an hour and a half ago and am still angry and dissatisfied. After a 2.5 hour wait they said my frame was good. I asked if it can be reinspected and they said “what we’ll do is wait two or three months...” and then apply the corrosion compound.

So, my question is, if my frame is good then why would you need to take a peek at it two or three months from now? Is a “failure” in the structural integrity imminent in the near future? But it passed today so that’s all that counts?

I told them ‘I’m not putting that shit (the anti corrosion compound) on my truck. All it’s gonna do is cause the truck to rust from the inside out.’ I noted that the two employees looked at each other knowingly and nodded. I then asked ‘So if I don’t put this shit on my truck and the frame fails I have no recourse?’ After some hesitation, the service manager says “No.” He then added “Even adding (the corrosion compound) it to your truck doesn’t necessarily mean you have recourse, once it’s complete Toyota considers the warranty claim closed.”

I still refused to put that garbage on my frame and told him I’ll remember this experience when I buy my next truck.

I was a Toyota fan until this experience and as of today you’ve lost a customer. Toyota, if you’re reading this, this is only the beginning of my bad mouthing your product and customer service experience. I will be telling everyone who will listen for years to come about my experience. Pricks.

You didn’t fix the 1st generation problem and continued pumping out overpriced shit into the 2nd generation.

F**k I’m mad. By the way I live in the lower mainland of British Columbia. Since you’re so keen on charging me for every little nut, bolt and washer, where’s the reimbursement for 2.5 hours of my time?

    ***Update***

So I went back to the same dealer a week later to have them replace the serpentine belt, tensioner and pullies. I got a call a few hours later that they found a frame perforation that was missed on the initial inspection. They’ve taken pictures and will be sending it off to corporate for approval (they don’t see why it wouldn’t be approved).

I’m so happy I didn’t have them spray that shit on the frame. I’m also really happy that my dealer kept their eyes open and didn’t stop looking for frame problems. A big thumbs up to them!
