Ok, I understand I'm on a Toyota forum and the answers will probably be biased in that direction, but here we go...

I have this really awesome looking F150. It's in great shape, it's fast, it's comfortable on the highway, it's got tons of interior room, and I'm absolutely fed up with how big it is overall. 99.9% of the time I'm the only one riding in it, every now and then my wife and my 5/6 year olds will go somewhere as well. I've got my eye on a 2016 TRD Off Road Access Cab, and I like that it's (obviously) geared more towards off-road performance. My F150, even though it's a 4wd, is absolutely more of a sport-truck, and I kinda hate how I always feel like it's got to look like I just got done detailing it. In addition to downsizing, I want something that looks more rugged, and won't bother me if I have to go more than 5 minutes without washing it. I know all the potential issues/fixes with my F150, I just don't want to get into a situation with a first model year Tacoma that will drive me nuts trying to deal with anything that comes up.

You may all drool over my current truck while you decide whether or not to talk me out of this

Judging by people shifting from the Tacoma to an F150, I think you're going to be disappointed with the Tacoma's power/shifting. I personally don't have a problem with it, but I was coming from a 2000 Jeep XJ. If you're serious about the switch, take the Tacoma for a LONG test drive, and if for any reason, you're not in love, move on. Things that bother you on a test drive are not going to get better with time.

I'd also recommend looking at a 2017 or 2018. They made some minor improvement/changes in that short time. I don't think you'll save very much by buying used either, so a 2018 or 2019 might make more sense.

    Good luck.

PS: I'm not usually a fan of Ford F150's look, but that's a pretty sweet looking truck.

I'd keep the F150 or if anything go with a DCSB/LB at least. Have owned an accesscab as a single guy and still wanted a DC, I couldnt imagine trying to fit anything back there especially kids, even throwing my gear bag from riding at the track was a pita.

The F-150 is a nice looking truck. If you plan on keeping the Taco for a long time and plan on having the kids ride in it, go with the Double Cab. I just traded in my AC for a DC because I needed more room for my two sons.

There are tons of good people here that will drool over a ford. It absolutely does nothing for me. If you want to join the world of functional off-road fun and utility, get a Tacoma. Access cab. Manual. Just know going into it, you’re not going to have the power that the ford has.

Also with a name like yours, go with black.

Agree. I have a access cab because I couldent beat the price. But double cab is the way to go. I did have a friend sit in the back for 3 hours. He said it sucked. Access cab is good for pups and stuff. Not people and car seats

Anyone who is used to the room of a full size will despise the interior of any midsize, along with the power differential between the two. Leaving brand and model completely out of it.

I was in a similar situation recently my 03 Dcsb was totaled and was looking at the ford for more room. I took a f150crew and had nothing bad to say about it other than just way to big. It made it easy to buy another taco. I bought a used 17 dblcb and very happy I did. The only thing that bothered me about the old one was the short bed. I have enough room for two kids and every once in a while the wife. By the the new Pro!

I completely agree with that sentiment. I think your original opinion would be received better with this additional validation.

Also, I was just busting chops, as I've seen a lot of posts from you lately "bashing" Tacomas. "Bashing" is too harsh of a word, but I can't think of a more suitable term.

I agree with this. If op bought THAT thing on purpose, a Tacoma probably isn’t for op. Fundamentally.

Which is good. For everyone involved.

It's a beautiful truck, you'll hate yourself later on for trading it out. The Tacomas are great trucks overall pound for pound with the capabilities for it's size. But your F-150 is already a great machine. If size is the only real negative, then that's a good thing. You only hate one thing about your truck. Keep it, keep it, keep it.

Love my Access Cab! I have much more use for my 6 foot bed than I do for rear seats.

The Taco is a completely different truck than an F150. I have no idea why people even compare them. I'd never own one. The only people telling you to keep your F150 are people that own F150s! Kinda negates their opinion.

Best advice is to do your research and take it for a long test drive including taking it on a freeway entrance ramp and getting it up to 60-70 MPH. See if you can live with the engine/tranny combo. It takes some getting used to. I have no issues with the Taco's power.

I'd have no problem neglecting the shit out of washing that thing. I already do it with my new Tacoma unless its covered in dirt lol. I love my truck, but I drove an F150 from LA to Chicago and back and I thoroughly enjoyed it. That drive would be way worse in my Tacoma IMO. This is one you REALLY have to do a thorough test drive with to know if it's right for you.

Actually people that have driven both or owned both will give you a better opinion. He should negate YOUR opinion..

I have driven a couple of F-150's for work and as much as I love my tacoma, the F-150 is a lot more comfortable to drive.
