More importantly when you're all making your popcorn for this thread watch...what kind of oil do you use? I use store brand 100% canola...and I put some fresh ground sea salt in the oil. I use 2/3 cup of orville redenbacher popping corn (It's a high volume low chaff brand) in the whirly pop!

Blackstone is a great company, they can provide lots of information about your individual oil in your individual vehicle. It does not mean you will get the same results with the same oil in another vehicle . The oil analysis for your Taco may be radically different from the analysis for my Taco even though we use the same oil. There are too many variables that they can’t control and can’t verify. Blackstone answers none of the questions I posed.. But they did extract information from their database and try to determine if they could make any distinctions between cheap oil and higher priced oil and here is their results -
He ultimately concludes that, in terms of wear rate, oil brand really doesn’t seem to be a huge factor, stating:

We see much more variation in wear levels from the type of engine, the time on the oil, the viscosity, the use the engine sees, etc. Whatever differences exist from oil brand to oil brand, we don’t see a lot of difference in terms of wear for most types of engines.

I think that pretty sums it up. You have no evidence that your expensive oil is better than my cheap oil and you definitely can’t say your vehicle will last longer than mine due to the brand. So spend a lot of money on oil, a moderate amount or go cheap, it doesn’t make a damn bit of difference. If it makes you feel good, makes you feel cosmically orgasmic buying an expensive brand of oil, go for it.

I also do one with sea salt and cinnamon in the oil and then add sugar as it pops...kick ass kettle corn...sooooo good. That salty with sweet makes you pay with the amount of fiber that's in popcorn...

I wasn't doubting you. Just wanted to link that "lab" analysis for reading when people click this thread.

Maybe we should hijack or morph this into a pop corn thread, at least we might learn something of benefit.
