Replace them all, or just the bad one?

That is totally up to you. When I did my carrier bearing I replaced none, just greased them, but I was low mileage at the time. Depends how many miles you have, if you are over 100 on original stuff you might as well replace them all, because typically stuff like secondary ignition components, heat involved sensors, and rolling assembly items should all be replaced at the same time due to all of them seeing the same amount of load, wear, heat cycles, etc.

    @ 72k

The slight vibration got worse, after I walked an early 90's 5.0 Mustang last weekend... :D

Highly likable post! Judgement call on replacing the rest of the U joints then Mr. Rob.

I believe I was around that mileage when I did my carrier on the truck. I've been good. Of course, knock on wood as always but the ball is in your court on what you would like to do my Bruddah.

Are stock driveline(s) the only way to go? I assume they dont require maintenance ever but are there aftermarket ones? Or for racing only where money is no object?

I use the term spicy earlier and a brand of parts like spicer appear. Coincidence?

I literally ordered the carrier bearing and three U-joints this morning. My carrier bearing is shot, so I decided to just replace everything since I just turned over 100,000 miles a few days ago. I went with stock Toyota parts, is Spicer better?

My carrier seems to be in good shape, but will probably order the 3 u-joints.

I’m in the opposite position, carrier bearing shot, but U-joints seem ok.

I’ve only done the sync/jumper procedure without the UCON installed. Don’t know if it’ll work or not if UCON is in the loop.

Your TRD flashed ECU is useable by another truck as long as it’s the right part number ECU for the truck it’s going into. They just need to do the jumper thing to get it synced up before it’ll start.

Thanks for the info. I’ll try and sync up the ecu first, without the UCON. Then swap the UCON back in.

I haven't heard enough information of them to say one way or another. The problem is stock axles only have so much geometry before a different design is required to prevent so much rubbing. I have been running on busted axle boots for about 2 years now. Primarily because I am sick of cleaning grease off the lower sides of the truck and under the frame and would rather let them do their thing under there. I don't wheel anywhere near as much as I used to so it is a moot point for me as of right now as road contaminants are dropped to a minimum, but anyways. Give them a whirl. You don't know until you try.

In others news I had a friendly power exchange with what appeared to be a current generation (possibly even 2018) Ford F-150 tonight. I think I surprised him, but made him salty that not only could I keep up with minimal effort with his junker, but also would eventually pass him if I kept the pedal at a constant position at all times. Lucky for him I was running on 1/8 tank and anything longer than average spirited runs would be disliked by the blower.
