I'm used to driving a GMC Sierra with V8 power. I bought a used 2017 DCSB OR AT with only 12k miles on it and that V6 is a dog. There is no get up and go. Is there anything I can add to make more power, to wake up that 3.5L V6 engine? I think Toyota should come out with a V8 for the Tacoma!

Did you test drive the truck before you bought it?

You could try a few different things (gears, IHE, etc), but unless you go FI, nothing will get you to V8 power levels. If power is important to you, you bought the wrong truck.

Get TSB 0062-18 done. complain of hesitation when you floored it to freeway merge followed by a big surge in speed. Also hesitation when you have wide open throttle.
Try that first. Its not dramatic, but might as well since done for free.
U can also look up the tunes people are doing themselves on here.
But, if you want power you should have went 5.7L Tundra or similar.

Yes I test drove the truck before I bought it. Just wished it had more get up and go power. I bought the truck for reliability.

Sounds like me also. I had 8 recalls on a 2014 5.3L silverado. some were scary.
Keep driving the taco with an open mind. It might grow on you. Mine has. tsb 62-18 helps.

It could always be worse... I drove a 2.7 liter 3rd gen auto before. Talk about a dog

My buddies 1st gen single can 5 speed was awesome though... wasn’t the fastest thing but you could get it to move, and it was just fun as shit to drive. That’s the reason I bought my 03

I came from a 2012 Silverado. It's certainly no V8 but I find that you'll be pleasantly surprised/happy past 3.5k rpms... Under that, quite frankly, the Taco is a turd. Past that and she'll go. From what I've read here, this motor likes high RPM and that's where all the power is. Good luck.

I had a 2002 GMC Z71 for 15 years. I got rid of it because of all known many issues, like transmission slip, front axle leaks and transfer case leak due to an internal issue. GM knows about these issues but they never recalled them. I got tired of the GMC transmission slip and sold it. So hence I bought the Taco for reliability and longevity. I wont ever buy another GM or Ford truck. I don't trust them.

I think you should of bought a Tundra... the Sierra is a larger truck with a bigger motor/towing capacity. Of course it's going to feel slower. like, maybe if you had a Chevy Canyon... and went to the tacoma, then i can see you comparing the two. But a Sierra and a tacoma? No. At least compare it to something on a similar platform.

Totally understand on the underpower. My last vehicle was a passat2.0 turbo with a hot flash/cat down pipe and it would roll! Moving onto the truck has been slow but nonetheless reliable as can be since I bought it 2 years ago. I put a k&n Cai and think it moves faster but I doubt I got any gains from it. However running a higher octane fuel will definitely put you past an 09 5.7 Dodge hemi 2 door sb lmao I've raced my buddies countless times and the only time I beat him was with premium burning and the Cai. The very next time I raced him I was burning the low grade and lost. So I'll pay a lil more at the pump just to have a lil more pep in her step worth it to me. Hope this helps a bit.

not a bad idea if you prefer the strip to the track.
