Was good. Right after the bridge a truck was blocking the trail. Ended up being a dozer driver repairing whatever was after that. Said it was impassable. Just camped there by the river. Also took an offshoot from Auger nearly all the way to the lake (I think?) but turned back after a while (fork with super gnarley downhill). I’m guessing there is no way out but the Park way in.

What is this offshoot? Also during the weekend they aren't out there doing maintenance to say stuff is impassable.

It was closer to when Auger started. Just an open gate to the side. I think the numbers were 9 27 / 31. Wasn’t on the park map. Was a lot more unmaintained. After 30-45 mins on creeping through we decided to bail. Literally the only offshoot from Park to bridge.

We actually actually tried to go up after the truck left. Dozer freshly graded that hill but it was mush. Slid sideways on ATs so we just went back across bridge to camp. Great camping there for sure.

There is an offshoot to the Rt not far after getting onto the CHestnut Mtn. Then there is a couple of offshoots at the hard rt turn on Chestnut Mtn to head down to the bridge. Which one of those was it.

Oh. We went down Chestnut. Hit intersection with two gates. Had to go hard right (I assume Auger). Then the offshoot was to left. If passed, Kept going all the way to metal bridge.

I could be way off. We were really winging it lol.

So the hard Rt is Chestnut Mtn Rd that goes to the metal bridge. The 2 gates to the left/straight are other trails not sure what they are. There is also an offshoot wayyyyy before that like a couple hundred yds after you enter to the rt. not sure what that is either.

I think that was the one we hit. It had a lot of very low fallen trees we drove under. Was pretty overgrown but nothing too bad. Definitely a lot of stuff out there. There were even offshoots off the one we chose.

Yeah there are quite a few offshoots I have seen but haven't been there long enough to go explore. Will go one day and just spend my time exploring.

I'll get you some details about the roads maybe tonight. The Friends of Gorges map is helpful to show where everything is and is a WIP, so should keep evolving.

Haha. cool. We definitely had a hell of a good time. Just us out there on that Tues-Wed. Got a great campsite....the smaller one to the right side of the trail at the bridge. The one to the left, that is much larger had who-knows-how-many bees living in the fire-ring since some douche left thier sleeping pad laying over it. Wasnt fucking with that mess. Cooked some steaks and had a good fire. Sleeping by that river was amazing. I should note, my wife and I had never camped just by ourselves before...usually with some sort of wheeling group, so we felt pretty accomplished.

I am probably going to be through here in November on a week long camping trip with my wife. Would like to hike the rainbow falls trail and then do this run. Have a few questions.

Is the road pretty well marked from the parking lot where the coordinates point in the first post?

Is the camping spot on the river easily found by someone that has never been there before? Safe spot to setup?

The road is easy enough to find. It's to the left of the information signs at the trailheads.

The only spot that might throw you on the way down to camping is the hard right to get onto Auger Hold Trail. It's a hard switchback. If you don't look for it you might get to the bottom of Chestnut Mountain Road and think that's the end since there are gates blocking the other roads.

You can't miss the camping spots.

Gonna try to put another run together after the first of the year. It's early yet, but wanted to get something started.
