What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

We haven't started talking about another one officially, but @CalTacoma09 and @foxrcing07 just did a spur of the moment mod day for @roguegs a couple weekends ago lol.

I'm pretty sure we can get something going relatively quickly. I do my best at making my garage available to my Taco buddies when ever I can... We can probably even talk my wife in to cooking us up some good food.

With that said. It's currently hunting season, so wish me luck on killing a buck and a bear quickly so my weekends aren't blocked off with me being in the woods wondering around aimlessly with my rifle and backpack.

I just took my sway bar off earlier this week to try out. I never wanted to remove it cause I'm in LA, we drive fast. I also just replaced the sway bar bushings & endlinks recently. Wasted money, sway bar is not going back on.

I only noticed a slight more body roll when making a u turn or a fast right turn. Doesn't feel even the slightest bit unsafe. Drove down a dirt road yesterday & swerved left & right to test, feels fine. Drives way much better over bumps now.

It really depends on spring rate. If you have soft suspension it may not be a good idea to remove it. With pretty much any expensive coilover setup you'll probably be ok. Was talking to my buddy about this yesterday too. He was talking to someone about new swaybars for his FD, they said if you have enough spring rate you really don't need sway bars.

When my truck was stock it swayed pretty good, I would never take it off with stock springs. Heck at one point I even had a rear sway bar on my truck. Yeah I know.

 

Not sure what spring rate the Icons have, but I’m going to have that Predator bumper on there eventually so let’s hope it’s capable of holding all that weight.

 

If you have the standard springs on the icons I took my sway bar off and it seemed fine. When I get the truck all back together I’ll probably put it back on.... but I’m also not taking it off-road anymore.. last trip to badlands did a number on the paint.. can’t have that happen on the fresh stuff lol

 

600 I think? I don't have any armor. You can alway go with 650 or 700 coils if you need. Try it without the sway bar. Only a quick 6 bolts/nuts & it's off.

 

There’s just something better about holding and seeing a paper manual versus on a computer screen.

It was terrifying. I thought I was going to capsize at a hard Left turn.

 

Exactly, I hate viewing online/pdf FSMs & Machinery's Handbook. I have to have hardcopies.

 

Oh yeah, I forgot, I meant after you put on the Icons.

 

For diagnostic stuff like Vol 1 and 2 of the FSM, I prefer the PDF version just because it’s easy to search and zoom in. Schematics are different for me, I’d much rather have a book of wiring diagrams rather than looking at a screen.

 

By the time you finish painting your arms Tesla isn't even gonna be a brand anymore

 

That reminds me, I should probably put the clear coat on so it'll be ready by next year.

Would I be a filthy sinner if I stuck a 1/4" top plate spacer on top of my 5100's? Ive gotta good 3/4" or more of rake and I wanna bring the front up more without adjusting my 5100's and preloading the coil. Something that doesn't require longer studs like these:

 

just do it! JK bud the funny thing is I've could of been done with my cab by now but I've been procrastinating too. I need to just do it.

I went ahead and ordered hood, fender, radiator, AC condenser, shroud, bumper & valence, grille, and filler panels. Still a few parts I need, but should be <$150 more.

I am impatient and figure if I get this truck on the road, w/o paint, for under $2200, I can still justify it. Then it's just a matter of how much do I want to spend on paint and how nice I want it to look: do it myself for $500 in supplies and have amateur results (like my current truck); spend thousands and have a real beauty...? TBD on that decision. If i but the pro money into appearance, one of these trucks has to go up for sale.

If I go cheap, I'll keep them both, at least for a while. Might sell the Camry... hate to as I am original owner 2003 w/155,000 3.0L XLE all options. Awesome car. Boring yes. Daily driver, can't be beat. Super comfortable leather seats. Driving position fits me like a glove.

As I said before, the underbody/frame are super clean, unlike my current 95. That's almost unheard of in this part of the country for a 95 that's less that $5000. So, I'm not close to panicking yet on the investment.
