Correct, the trasmission is not flawed. Some people just dont like the way it operates, because they don’t understand how Toyota set up the Tacoma as a whole to operate.

Where’s Smitty when you need him? He moved from his 16 to a tundra just recently.

2005-2006 it was, I'm guessing only paired to the 4.0L V6 that replaced the 3.4L the same years. Seems like it was probably the identical drivetrain to the Tacoma.

Guess if you want a V8 truck with a manual you've gotta go waaaay back.

    Get the Limited 4runner

the full-time 4wd system is the same they've been using in the land cruiser for decades.
Unfortunately Toyota only offers it in the land cruiser and limited 4runner.

My '96 land cruiser went 350+ miles with 0 issues with this system.

You have to pay sales tax if it exists in the state. Ask Oprah or anyone that has won anything on The Price is Right. The snatchman always gets his cut.

How many miles on the truck? When I bought mine I thought the engine and trans left a bit to be desired but decided I could live with it as I liked it more than the other options. After about 6K miles I thought it started to drive a lot better. After 20K miles I really didn't have any issues and it seems to drive really well. It has decent acceleration off the line (which it didn't when new), shits fine, doesn't hunt gears. Mountain driving can be a bit annoying as it seems to always go into overdrive when it shouldn't but S mode takes care of that.

My only two issues are the occasional hesitation when accelerating hard. Mine is in the shop ATM for the "stumble" TSB and I hope that fixes this one issue without wrecking the rest of the overall driveability. Also, I routinely get around 22 MPG even with my sometimes heavy foot.

Of course you have to pay sales tax in states that have it. Maybe my explanation was wrong. Say your trade in is worth 30k and the vehicle you want to purchase is 40k. You will only pay sales tax on the 10k because you already paid sales tax on the 30k.

The OP said the dealer would absorb the sales tax. But if he is doing a straight trade then there is no sales tax and the salesman is pulling one over on him.

Oh they will work it out alright. They will show you on paper and make it seem like you aren’t losing money but you will lose quite a bit of money trading in so soon. It’s been titled in someone’s name. It’s a used vehicle now.

This is what I am hoping will happen with mine over time. If not, I might get the OV update. I have 2,000 miles right now. Are you sure that you just didn't get used to the truck instead of the truck changing?

Perhaps you are right. . . I bet I'll take a huge loss on the trade. . . but it might be worth it.

With Toyota resale and premium I don't think so man, might be worth a look.

I love my Taco but then again I'm a young single dude with no need for extra space, only tow my motorcycles, and have the 4.0 2nd gen. If I wanted a bigger truck with more power I'm not too sure I'd be looking at Toyotas right now. The Tundra is super outdated and other trucks in its class are offering way more value for the dollar. You can't beat Toyota reliability, and I would definitely bet the Tundra will be in better shape than a domestic at 100k, but if you're changing trucks every 2-3 years what difference does it make to you.

I suppose that could be some of it, but there definitely seems to be a break in process and where it was rather sluggish off the line it's not anymore. I also just had the "stutter" TSB done it seems even better. I think the aftermarket stuff is probably for those unwilling to wait for the truck to break in. At this point, I'm fully happy with the way it drives.

    +1

Definitely should focus on your own needs. I something think I might like a Tundra better, but as it would have to be my daily driver too I can't stomach the crappy gas mileage of a full size truck. I also don't really need more power as I don't have a trailer to haul around. Maybe someday I'll retire and buy a big 5th wheel or something. For daily driving, camping trips, etc. the tacoma is awesome. Just have to suppress the big truck penis envy feelings from time to time.
