I ask this in all honesty with no ill intentions. Why doesn’t Toyota offer up something like the Raptor in the Tacoma lineup? They wouldn’t be able to keep em on the lot.

Gonna blow trd pro and zr2 out of the water, as long as it isn’t priced above 60,000. (Also assuming it comes to the us)

Not that I'm aware of. Just the 2.3l EB with the 10sp slushbox.

You never know, if it sells well then maybe in a few years they’ll bring the diesel. They finally brought it to the F-150 so there’s hope

They can barely keep Tacoma TRD Pros on the lot. If the Ranger Raptor ever does come to the US(it most likely will), it will most likely force Toyota's hand. A full size Raptor has a MSRP of 50K. If Ford can bring it here matching the price of a TRD Pro, I would definitely consider getting one.

This will be my next truck if it comes to the states. On paper it looks impressive compared to the Tacoma. It's has 8 way power seats, Apple CarPlay, Watts rear suspension, disk brakes all around, factory Kbros to name a few things. I would imagine it would get a upgraded version of the 2.3 EB. Standard Rangers will have 280hp/310tq so anything more would be awesome. I'll take mine in gray.

    Dang it is pretty though!

I think something we are missing here is the literal pressure non-Toyota auto makers face in AU. Toyota with the LC and the Hilux have a huge market in AU, and with nothing close to what our EPA and DOT are in the face of the auto makers they can come to market with just awesome real working vehicles.

I think Ranger vs Tacoma vs Colorado are two seperate battles when you look at here (US) vs there (AU)

I would almost get rid of my two great vehicles to have a DCSB with a diesel though. Thing is though having that extra (3rd) vehicle just makes it easier when a repair or maintenance goes longer than normal.

My father-n-law would be proud(er) of me if he saw me get a Ford though!

I think they will bring it here in 2020 or later. Think about all the guys that can’t afford but drool over the Full Size Raptor. Trucks are all about image. Take that built in fan base and bring a mini Raptor here that competes and exceeds the competition and boom, they won’t be able to keep this thing on the lot assuming price is right. Only reason I can think Ford would not bring it is because that are afraid it will cannibalizes the full size.

I would hope/imagine they would include the 2.3 tuned to the specs closer to the Focus RS which does 350hp/350tq

I would agree which would be awesome. You'd have usable torque down low in the rpm range as well lol.

I don't have the link but I was closely following the Ranger US release and read that Ford is going straight to Toyota's throat with the new Ranger and most possibly the Raptor version (which might make it in 2020). And the starting price is supposedly LOWER than Tacos.

I'm from New Zealand and my brother lives in Aussie so I go downunder every 2 years. My bro owned the Hilux (2 gens) and then traded it towards a Ranger diesel which has been out in those countries for over 5 years. I drove the Ranger diesel in Fiji as well last year and the build/off road qualities and finishing are BETTER than the US Tacos (the Hilux diesel is also slightly better build VS Tacos here in US). It's a bummer US Ranger is not getting the diesel but the vehicle is VERY capable like a Taco.

Toyota really needs to step up their game. They are being Apple right now...whatever has given them success in the past, they continue with it ..unchanged, unrefined but now with other manufactures bringing out better products for same price, Toyota needs to come up wiht the current market competition. In Aussie, Ford Ranger already beat Hilux for sales back in 2017. Now that its coming to US, if Taco doesn't step up their game, same thing will happen.

As for me, I've put my Taco purchase on hold now. Gonna test drive the Ranger on Nov 10 when the demo hits Sacramento and then decide.

Starting price for the Ford Ranger in the US is only 200 less. Please Keep the Hilux out of the US, it is hideous. You can't even buy the 3rd Gen Tacos in New Zealand so i'm not really surprised the Ford Ranger is beating Hilux sales. However, I am in agreement. Aside from the Chevy Colorado, no other car manufacturer has really stepped up to take on Toyota in the mid sized truck segment in the United States. I doubt they will stay idle though.

    Thank you.

I think the Hilux is horrible looking. I don't like any Australian market conventional trucks, they look funny

Don't forget the Jeep. Though it sounds like the price may be higher, I would bet on Jeep bringing a manual option.

^ With the recent spike in Wrangler sales this year, I wouldn't be surprised if the Jeep Pickup does really good. IMO, the Wrangler Rubicon is the BEST off road looking vehicle on the market (outside of reliability, etc..just for looks).

Sounds like they are also bringing back a Dodge Dakota built on that Jeep Chassis.
