Why don't you go the dealer and ask for the newest transmission update?

Most people are really happy with it.

The power is there, the problem is that Toyota made the throttle response all weird.

I’ve been dumping one of these in the tank at each fill up. Huge difference. Added bonus is the exhaust smells like watermelon.

You might try one of the things that the last 30 people who made this same exact post tried.

I think most guys are complaining about feeling the lack of low end grunt, it makes less torque than the previous Gen and it's at a higher RPM plus the truck weighs more. As you said there is more HP higher up in the revs so you just have to drive it differently than before.

    Oh, I get that.

Just, people will not accept that the engine is more content above 3500... like its gonna blow if their putting it work towing up a mountain at 4500rpm, etc(I actually read that on here, someone worried it was gonna blow!)
Then complaining when its 10-12 towing something, because now its working, and needs to use fuel to make power.

I remember the same whining and bitching when the JK came out with its pesky 3.8, then MORE when it came out with the Pentastar....

And look, it's one of the best selling POSs out there.

HP and TQ cross at 5252... want more power, and efficiency out of smaller engine, that can meet New standards?
Make it lean and gutless down low, and move the power up, where it is deliberate to use it. Will also have the effect of keeping the CAFE up, as most people wont push these up that high, and they get loud, and all that.

We have a bunch of EcoBoost Van's, and they're not really doing any better MPG, than my 6.0 Chevy. Takes fuel to make power, and when you need to keep 8k moving down they road, you need X amount of power and will use Y amount of fuel.

    Sorry for the rambling.....

Once you get over the V8 and realize it’s not a sport sedan you’ll be fine.

When I was younger, I had a 1987 F-150 4x4 and of coarse, single cab up on 36’s. I used to party up at 88 just north of umatilla in the ONF where there a was huge mud bowl! I never took it mudding but I did sit there, with about 50 feet of snatch rope, and make 200 bucks a night pulling people out!

2022 Electric??? Really. According to Google it’s a long range car. For them to produce an electric truck would be game changing

Tundra is worse because of its weight and 4.30 gears keep it turning at higher RPMs than most other pickup engines.

I have no problem with my truck getting up and going.... I think toyota should put the 3.5L 2GR-FKS in the new supra too... They should have like 4 engines for all vehicles.....

I have my 2009 Sport in to the dealer for frame rust recall (getting the spray) and they gave me a 2018 Tacoma rental with the 3.5L 6AT. This one is *way* better than the one I test drove in 2016. I guess it has the updated transmission map. Anyway, it mostly addresses my previous complaints about excessive and mistimed downshifts on the highway on teensy upgrades. That 2016 would jam down 2 gears for no reason and really wind out unnecessarily where this one holds 6th or maybe does a gentle shift to 5th under the same conditions.

No, it isn't a rocket. It won't run a 4.x zero to 60 like a GM 6.2L. But I wasn't expecting that in the first place. Nor is it likely to be a tow monster. But for my light duty use as a DD it would do fine. I may be back in the market... I'll have to see how much I like my old one when I get it back Friday.
