New Pirelli Scorpion A/T Plus Installed

Thanks for what you could provide by way of update. These tires are still in the running as I plan to replace the stock GY's before snow flies here in Ontario. Cooper AT3 4S or Pirelli Scorpion AT Plus. The Cooper's are getting great reviews but I like the more aggressive look of the Pirelli's.

Hahah. I know. It’s awful. Added over $5k to the price of my truck ffs.

 

They sure get us here...13% in Ontario. Worst part is, 13% each and every time a vehicle is bought/sold/bought...

Down there they get it on yearly tags...some are outrageous.

Costco often has an $80 rebate for Pirellis. It’s in the form of a Costco cash card though.

Need to make a decision on the Pirelli Scorpion plus vs BFG KO2... any recommendations?

 

Research the forums - specifically under the Wheels and Tires. There are lots of other tires people like besides BFG KO2s and Pirelli Scorpion. Coopers, Goodyears etc. etc.

Do you off road, or are you looking primarily for appearance?
Are you in an area that gets snow/ice?
Would you buy winter tires in addition, or only want one set of tires?
How important are road noise, and gas mileage?
Are you going to lift the truck?

You need to decide what tire features are important to you. I am satisfied with the stock Goodyears, as I don't off road. I run Michelin X Ice on steel rims for winter. Winter stopping power is more important to me than winter traction, as truck already has 4WD available. If you live in SoCal, you would likely not care about winter tires.

I had an F150 before, with stock Pirelli Scorpions (can't remember specific tire model), but most Ford owners hated them.

 

Two very different tires despite the A/T designation.

The BFGs are geared more towards off-road/consistent rugged environments whereas the Pirellis primarily emphasize on-road performance with relatively mild off-road use.

Both are good tires, with the Pirellis being superior in overall quality, wet traction, and longevity. The BFGs look a lot more aggressive and perform better off-road. I have used and been pleased by both tires, but I knew the strengths and weakness of each going in so there weren't any surprises or misleading expectations.

I'll likely buy a set of Pirelli Scorpions for daily use and reserve my present BFGs to dedicated off-road use only.

 

And what?

 

Something to think about is that most OEM tires are specifically manufacturered to be as cheap as possible. This is to meet auto manufacturer specifications and margin demands, and awarding contracts to tire manufacturers. If auto company A is going to outfit few million vehicles with a tire, more often than not they're going to do it as cheaply as possible while maintaining a brand-forward approach, leading tire manufacturers to submit bids that will be as low as possible to win the contract.

In other words, don't use the OEM tires to judge. They're shit.

Not a lot of off road, mostly looking for appearance and stopping power. I plan to use these all year/seasons, and I live in Canada where we get snow/ice. Not overly concerned re road noise nor gas mileage, and not planning to lift the truck any time soon.

 

^That is probably a true statement.

I took my Pirelli’s off a few weeks ago and put my Yokohama winters back on. Noise level is basically equal between them, so if anyone has run studless winter tires, that’s about the noise level you could expect from the Scorpions.

 

Switched back to the Scorpions a few days ago and had them mounted on some TRD wheels, which are pretty rare around here. Probably because they’re $325-$350 per wheels ffs. I managed to get a lower price, but they’re expensive enough that even the local stealership sells knock offs. Haha.

These are great tires. I have there MT. Love them.
