I've been a home owner for over 10 years now and have never purchased a lawn mower. I've been through three and all were given to me by family members.

The 2 cycle lawn-boy that I've been using for the last 4 years finally decided to die and I don't feel like screwing with a 15 year old mower. We've got a little less than 1/2 acre, so I've got no need for a riding mower.....

What I need is a nice, reliable, push mower that will give me a nice cut and not fall apart after three seasons. I'm thinking something with a Honda motor, but are there any other good ones?

I vote Honda. Used one for years before we moved and needed a riding mower.

Honda all the way. I just replaced mine after 15 years. My next door neighbor is still on his that's over 20 years old. Get one with the hydrostatic transmission, vs the thumb lever.

My brother in law loves his rider, but walking the yard is about the only workout I get after work. I worked a few summers in college landscaping and would love a 36" exmark walk behind, but my wife would kill me :p

Troy Built offers ones with a Honda motor for half the cost of a true complete Honda mower.. The drawback being the deck etc are obviously not as nice (some plastic), but from the sounds of it it would probably last you a while based on your use.. I bought my Mother one years back now and its been good so far.. Shes got about 1 acre

I've had my Honda for 15 years now and it still starts on the first pull every single time. I vote Honda.

Edit #1: Almost 15 years now. I bought it brand new after Hurricane Katrina and I've never had a problem with it.

Anything with a Honda motor. I sometimes feel bad about the lack of love I give mine. It always starts with the first pull, and runs so smooth that I neglect doing routine maintenance. It amazes me every time I start that it can just keep going and going without any issues. You would almost think it is made by Toyota!

Honda with the plastic (well, non metallic) base and the hydro-static self propelled.

You're likely going to have to get that at a mower shop, not Home Depot.

    Worth. Every. Penny.

I love my Lawn-boy mower. Bought 2 for $50 rebuilt the carbs, general tuneup, and they are rock solid starting on the 1st pull even after sitting for 3 years while I used my zero turn until the Briggs motor blew up on it (connecting rod)... I have no idea how old they are but they are built to last.

    LS1 swap with nitros.
Honda with composite deck all the way for a push mower. I'd have one myself but half a half acre to mow so use this instead... (it's a 1999 that I re-did)

I’d go with a Honda HRX. You’ll pay a little more, but you get what you pay for. Awesome mower that’ll last you forever if you take care of it.B79C04A0-2A38-4A0F-99F5-92148ECF0AE0.jpg

No love for Cub Cadet? I've had one for four years, not a single problem. If you don't want to spend big for a Honda, it's not a bad mower. I run non-ethanol in it and all my small engine stuff so the fuel never gunks up between seasons.

I bought a Honda Harmony about 16 years ago and the self-propel system tanked half way thru the first summer. I switched to a cheap Murray rider that lasted about 10 years with no issues and very little maintenance performed. Now I have a 52 inch Craftsman rider that seems solid. I am in need of a push mower also. I've heard good things about Husqvarna.
