So I’m confused. Taking my truck in for its 10k today and I see this and take a pic. I thought Toyota recommendation is every 10k. Then this is here. AE336356-22AA-4082-8D09-8C9D924CB868.jpg

Do synthetic if you want 10k changes.....i do every 5k myself. Will help in long haul from sludge deposits forming over time when the miles get high.

Had a hilarjous Toyota mechanic (using that loosely) where they tried to tell me i needed to do a change at 6 k since i took my truck offroad! We arent talking the Mojave but wooded trails like a damn park!! Lol. I begged him to tell me where he worked but think he caught on that might not be wise!

Not to worry...10K miles is more than necessary. Those ads are for weak minds. I just sold my '03 Tundra with almost 300k miles. Put in mobil one synthetic every 10k miles and new filter whether it needed it or not.....never needed to add oil between. Ran like a clock, not a single problem; now wish I never sold it but love my Tacoma and will treat it the same.

RTFM. 10k is standard service with 0w-20 synthetic. Toyota recommends 5k oil changes if you do lots of stop and go, drive on dirt or dusty roads, or take short trips a lot below freezing.

Depends on how you use the truck. If any of these are done frequently then you qualify for severe duty OCI:
Heavy offroading, dusty trails, driving in extreme cold, start and stoping constantly, heavy towing and hauling, etc. are hard on engine oil.

My Toyota service plan on my 2017 Taco sport Has an oil change at every 16,000 KMs.It goes in at every 8,000km for a check but they change the oil every other one. I have the pre-paid platinum 7 year 200,000 km warranty if that makes any difference. I was surprised they changed oil at 16,000km but its Toyota's own service plan. It is a full synthetic oil so that might be the reason they can go so long between

No motor was ever ruined by an earlier oil change. Go with 5K and you will have a longer lasting vehicle.

My truck uses 0w-20 synthetic. I took mine in for its 5k and was told they inspect, rotate tires, and a few other things at the 5k mark but doesn’t do the oil change til 10k. I said, “whatever” to the porter lady.

Just an old advertising platform, they extended even previous motors that used 5k intervals to 10k due to emissions.

0w20 is synthetic and is capable of longer intervals, all Toyota motors switched to it except for the Yaris.

All 5w20 and 5w30 motors are still 5k. This includes the older Tacoma 4.0 and the 3.5 V6 prior to 2012.

When she told me they only do the oil change at 10k. I said ... “whatever” and walked off. I’m not gonna argue with them, not gonna get me anywhere.

Will Toyota do it at the 5k mark if you request it? The way I perceived Toyota care is that you get 2 oil changes, you can get them whenever you want.

Interestingly, Toyotacare was every 5k w/ 0W20 on my '15 Camry.

This is right on the money and is in your owners manual. If I’m remembering correctly Toyota’s recommendation for severe duty is 5K on oil and filter change.
Short trips and stop and go traffic are the norm for many in large metro areas, certainly is around here!
