Behind Grill Light Recommendation

I'm getting a grillcraft grill and the mounting bar from BAMF.

What kinda lights you guys recommend for behind the grill? I want a look like this:



I don't want to go with a light bar and I don't want to break the bank. If I can, i'd LOVE to stay around $100, but not if it means the lights are crappy. I do some wheeling up in the sierras and a lot of camping/mountain climbing.

oh I also want to keep the light white color, cause I have the silver HID xenons in my headlamps.

 

Here's some options for you! I'm trying to keep it as close to your budget as possible, but also with a larger and whiter light. The first thing you should check though is how deep of a light you can fit in there without issue.

I think our 8" HID lights would be best for you there, but they're about $100 more than you're wanting to spend. They will however be an insanely bright light for you with a great light output. I would recommend the spread version for best overall coverage. Plus, they're a couple inches larger in diameter so it'll be a bit more like the photo. I know the price is a bit higher than you want, but PM me and I'll hook you up!

And if that doesn't suit your needs, we always have halogen lights that are within your budget! The halogens I would recommend are all 6" diameter lights, so just a bit smaller than the HIDs above. They also produce a lot of light! Again, I would recommend spread beam on these, but you can get them in spot if you'd prefer... just depends on what your lighting needs are.

A light that will perform quite similarly to the halogens I linked just above is the 6" Apollo Pros. The biggest difference is that these will be about 1.5" shallower and potentially easier to bit behind the grille if you don't have enough room for the two options above. Well, I'm going to be giving you a biased answer. But I do think so based on the specifications we provide for light output and how much testing we do with each of our lights. We're a company whose primary objective is providing the best lighting possible. Ours is a slightly larger light with a larger reflector, so the pattern will be more controlled than a smaller reflector. In addition, ours comes as a kit of two and theirs is only one light. So, the price will be essentially the same, and you'll have to do your own wiring combination or deal with having two separate switched for those two lights. Another difference between those Pro Comps and ours is that the ones you linked at least, are flood lights.

I have no experience with either specific HID product, but I can tell you that KC makes excellent quality products with many decades of experience in off road lighting, far more than other off road lighting companies. You'll notice there is little engineered optics in the Pro Comp lights, if you have a smooth reflector bowl you should have a fluted surface lens to control beam pattern. If you have a smooth lens the reflector itself should be faceted. The Pro Comps have neither, it is just going to put light out there with no real engineered pattern or distance projection, aka short range 'flood'.

One other thing to consider, HIDs are not an 'instant on' light. You turn them on and they warm up. If you want to be able to flash, or have your lights instant on, halogen will be more effective, but they will not be as bright as HID.

I believe KC does offer a TW discount. The install should be very straight forward as far as wiring up the lights, I'm sure their support people would help, but you also have the TW community which can be highly effective in helping out our members.

 

I currently have a set of PIAA 55w halogens, but I've been trying to free up enough funds for the KC Gravity Pro6. Maybe if I win the lotto I'll be able to swap out the entire front end of aux lights for KC LEDs.

My current plans are for the pair, probably spot beam, to replace the PIAAs, but my dream build would include the full bar up top as well mounted to a roof rack, then a couple of the Flex Duals down in my winch bumper. Maybe a cyclone or two in my rear bed rack...

 

Dang that would be quite a sweet setup! I love the cyclones... They'd be great in/under a bed rack.

 

I was going to purchase lights for behind the grill, but once I saw there's going to be a Turbo kit available soon, I need to save that space for the intercooler. . Guess I need to find a new location.
