So after reading reading and more reading and many trips to many dealers over the past 2 weeks and numerous test drives this morning I sold my truck and went and ordered a 2019 sr5 Tacoma. Should be here in 8 to 12 weeks.

One thing I really wanted to do is replace the front grill with the pro grill. A factory Toyota one not aftermarket. But realized the sr5 grill has something in it for the eyesight system. Will I be able to move this to the pro grill?

I believe the current Pro grills also allow EyeSight, so shouldn’t be an issue.

Congrats. Was yours special order? Some of my local dealers already have 2019's in stock on the lot.

And personally, I prefer the SR5 grill over the all plastic PRO. Probably spend that money on BFG KO's tires as the 1st mod.

Yes the oem pro grill will work fine, you just have to make sure you get the “garnish” with it. Mind if we ask how much you got it for? Order pricing always seems to be a little bit different than on the lot pricing.

Sit on the grill for now, you'll see Pro grills all over the place and you might appreciate the SR5 more. The Toyota grill does accept the "TSS" Toyota Safety Sense. "Eyesight" is subaru! haha.

Agree with Singh, start with tires, makes a huge difference and you can go up one size for just a bit better looking fit. The stock tires are practically Camry tires, very boring and low load capacity.

Also REMOVE THE CHIN SPOILER!!! they come off really easy at home, just a 10mm socket.

If anything, swap out the chrome grill bezel for black. Your grill is awesome. Don’t switch it for a Pro.

How come people keep referring to the PRO grill as all plastic? All of the OEM toyota grills are all plastic. No different

That sr5 grille is nice, I also agree. I have a spare sans bezel, probably not gonna mod it.

The "safety systems" between the Subaru and the Toyota are more similar than you think. They operate very similar, as Toyota owns 16-18% of Subaru. Subaru has had this "stuff" since 2007 (or so) and you can bet Toyota "borrowed some from Subaru as they designed "safety-sense" system.

Subaru seems set on the wide dual camera system that interferes with the sun visors, I don't think they use radar yet.

The Corolla wagon/iM and the yaris both use the dual camera pre-collision, Toyota for the most part uses millimeter radar with forward recognition camera.

Toyota and Subaru are definitely in bed with each other, the new 4 cylinders in the Camry/Corolla/Rav4 seem to be heavily influenced by Mazda. Eventually there will be 3 cars to chose from like an Apple store.

I love my SR5 as well. As said above, keep the grill and get a black bezel to surround it. Cheaper, and looks better than the pro grill, to me at least. Maybe sit on it because I wanted one too until I saw how many tacomas have them, and the black bezel completes the look to me. Congrats on your truck.

Where might I get this black surround? Also want to replce the rear bumper end caps with black. Any ideas other than painting the chrome ones?

    Congrats OP!

Just make sure when you go to get it and before you sign anything, go over it with a fine tooth comb. I mean literally with a magnifying glass and test drive the hell out of it.

Dealer. Or, someone on this forum was selling custom colored caps? You could always just paint your bezel. If you want factory black (the coooolest evr) order parts from an SR.

I wish they had used the dual cam for Taco as well. One hit on the grill could mean $$$. Like the BSM system being built into the bumper. These placements for sensitive and expensive equipment doesn’t make sense, especially on a truck.
