All the stuff I'm finding has DCs about $3,000 to $5,000 more than similar ACs.

I totally get about wanting and not needing the off road goodies, but ever since I bought my F150 I've regretted not getting a Raptor so if I change vehicles I won't make that mistake again. I'm actually looking at Trail 4Runners now.

My neighbor has a 4Runner Pro I drool over. Nice looking rig, just for me I need a truck. Sounds like you don’t, go for the 4Runner and enjoy it.

OP says he now wants a 4Runner. What’s confusing about that?

I actually considered a 4Runner before I bought my Mustang in 2015, and again when I was shopping for my truck last fall.

I’m another one that’s had both an F150 and a Tacoma. Once you’re used to the space of an F150, a Tacoma (especially an Access Cab) is going to feel absolutely tiny. If I remember right, a SuperCab F150 has about the same leg room as a DCSB. Obviously an Access Cab is going to be even smaller, and a SuperCrew even bigger. That’s a huge change.

One of the main reasons I went from the Tacoma to F150 was passenger space...we did a long road trip once in my Tacoma with 4 adults and it was miserable for everyone, myself included. The friends that went on that trip (9 hour drive) refused to take the Tacoma again because it was so cramped. Nothing against the truck, it’s just too small for that type of driving. I honestly can’t imagine 2 adults, 2 kids above 5-6 years old, and any kind of longer trip being comfortable in a Tacoma.

I had a full size (Tundra) that I loved to drive on the hiway. Hated parking it. Didn't drive it on the hiway every day, but I parked it every day. Went back to a mid size for that reason. My boat is only '16 so the Tacoma does fine for that. I personally prefer a double cab for the small amount of extra room but mostly the ease of access to the back seats. But that's me. Good luck with your choice.
Please test drive and when you are done, test drive some more.

Now if we’re talking the old 5.4 v8 with the cam phaser issues, I’d agree and talk some shit too. I’ve said it 100 times... Toyota purely relies on perceived reliability rather than any kind of innovation or technology.

My Tacoma was a bad ass little truck. Outside of the one tune I took it to the trails, the Tacoma has no real upsides. Less space, less payload capacity, less towing capacity, less power, worse mpg... etc over the last handful of fords I’ve had. For some, the Tacoma is perfect, for others it’s a compromise.
