What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

I cant find the link for the engine gasket set. Can anyone help me out with that?

TBD. I have not had a lot of time on it the last two days, but it is getting better. Need the fender to calibrate how far off it is now.

I straightened out the front body mount (a little heatin and beatin) that was sheared off using torch and porta power. I will be welding it on later today. I think that lower part of the front end is almost where it should be. The upper part of the apron is still off.

Yeah. Driving without a sway bar on 20 year old shot suspension is not a matter of bravery, it's a matter of safety.

 

Trust me. If you've driven my truck without the sway bar you will understand me entirely. It's not fun nor safe. You feel an intense body roll making a sharp turn, like you're about to capsize.

 

Toyota put it there for a reason, and until I put the new front suspension on there it'll remain that way. It's just not safe.

 

You'd love my truck without the bar, it's like driving a performance car that's been placed on top of a waterbed. You know it'll conform and stick really well around a tight corner, but it feels like its gonna go over haha.

 

My icons are revalved to hold up well at slow speeds and be more forgiving at high speeds. So turning around town is pretty relaxed, but at speed shit is hard.

 

It's not that expensive, the rears cost more to tune and fit than the fronts

 

Used icons can usually be found for 4-600 and then a rebuild on good condition ones with a comfort revalve should be about $200

 

Haha that's a hell of a way to describe it. Once the Icons go on I'll see how it handles without it.

Well most folks on here with a similar suspension setup like me tend to eliminate the sway bar entirely because of the stiffer springs.

 

Looking at diy fluid film kits. Is 6 cans enough for the frame, cross members and rear axle? Not looking to spray body panels. Just wanna control/eliminate the rust thats already there. I plan on wirebrushing/wirewheeling the rust off first, then spray painting, then fluid film. The Toyota coating is starting to get thin in some spots, but has done a pretty good job for 8 years of VA winters.

We have this thing called snow in NC. Which means salt, and lots of if. Not as bad as the Northeast, but my truck is from Virginia so its seen some salt.
