I was hearing that one of those idler pulley bolts is a reverse thread and that turning it clockwise will remove it, not lefty Loosey? is this true since you've replaced all idlers are all those part numbers listed for Gates just an RR job with no miss alignments compared with the OEM idlers?

I replaced the 3 idler pulleys but did not replace the tensioner pulley which is reverse thread. From what I understand that pulley is not sold separately from the tensioner.

What was the reason for the belt and pulley replacement? Did you have a failure? Is there a write up? I've replaced belts on other vehicles before and never had an issue but access seems a little limited on the Taco! I'm coming up on 90k miles and figure it may be good preventative maintenance.

Good question. I just replaced my belt with OEM at 80K miles. did not replace tensioners.

I am at +129,000 miles and decided it was time. Just preventative maintenance. It looks like a real bastard from the top of the truck, but remove the skid plate and climb underneath and it’s pretty easy. Access is much greater coming up from the bottom. See video below!

Tensioner replacement (the entire unit, not just pulley) is a bear since heaven and earth must be moved to get to it. I don’t think I’ll tackle that. A lot of guys are just replacing the bearing in the tensioner pulley, and some guys are using a Gates 36174 pulley since the size is pretty close.
