Thinking of going to a tundra... Or would OVtune do the trick?

Well I have been going back and forth with the idea of trading my truck for a tundra.. While I understand the truck is working correctly, I have started to dislike the way it drives. I really enjoy everything else about it but dislike the way the engine and transmission function(no lack of power just crappy shifting and having to nearly floor it for it to go.beyond 3500rpm) .. Speaking of all this, does an OV tune fix all of that? I want to keep the truck as it fits my needs other than how the transmission and engine work together.
I have read so many reviews but want honest feedback from those that have been in the position I am in.

 

OVTUNE with 91/93 Octane would be the most responsive and powerful combination you can get.

A free alternative is the Toyota transmission update TSB 0062-18 or 0058-18(both are the same update) which made the shifting and throttle response better for most members including myself, although in my case I did not have any issues with how it drove before.

If that doesn't do it then yeah the Tundra. I have been debating about the same lately but I get great MPG(The Tundra I had for a month got horrible mpg and I drive a lot) and a new Tundra is around the corner so it wouldn't be worth it.

 

My issue is where I live, I would have to take off from work and then HOPE they would update. I'm thinking the ovtune with 87 or a tundra

 

Weekend appointments? You could also try asking members for dealerships near your location which do the update without giving people the runaround.

From what I read, you can't go wrong with OVTune tbh even 87. I have been wanting to find someone near Atl that's willing to let me test it out to see if it's worth it compared to the TSB for a case of beer or something lol maybe you can do the same.

Tacoma is not a full size.
Its like comparing apples to oranges.
No Taco was ever like a full size and never will be. It was not designed to be.
Both trucks have pluses and minuses.

So ask yourself how much do you need to pull, how much more do you want to spend in gas, and how much bigger can you stand.

If you get a Tundra you will not like the mpg, think its too big in some situations and not need that size/power.

BTW the 0-60 time os a Tundra and Taco are not that big of a difference.

To be fair Tacoma's are as big as first Gen Tundra's which were full size not too long ago.

The 0-60 time's are not that different yes but the weird throttle on the Tacoma makes it feel underpowered unless you are in ECT or have the TSB.

 

This is the issue. I'm not worried about speed. At some point I will be pulling a boat and cars

 

I would say supercharged 2nd gen. More HP, far more torque. Auto trans from a Gen 1 V8 Tundra with no shifting/throttle response issues.

But, if you are regularly towing cars, you should have a full size.

Both trucks are all about the MPGs.

-Toyota tried their best to get the highest MPG numbers possible when designing the Tacoma.

-Toyota tried their best to get the lowest MPG numbers possible when designing the Tundra.

 

Google? The present Tacoma is 6" shorter than the first gen Tundra, 3" narrower and a few inches less in height if I remember correctly.

 

Not heavy towing, not even really my first consideration when buying a truck. I would rather buy a truck I actually enjoy driving rather than be disgusted with how bad Toyota tuned the transmission on this one
