    Yup! We drove out to Temecula today to the breeder for a female, but she was sleeping the whole time and we couldn’t gauge her personality. He was awake and super playful and curious and we fell in love. Can’t wait to pick him up

    I saw the pictures of the female and she was super cute. (She would have been spayed anyways). They didn’t have any pics of the males at the time but they had all the pups when we went today. I think there was about 5 reds and only 2 blues (1 male and 1 female). One of the reds was absolutely gorgeous though and had these piercing blue eyes, but we were set on getting a blue. I was open to male or female though. I partially wanted a female though because I already have a male so i didn’t want any alpha male stuff going on. But with a brand new puppy I’m sure he would have been fine either way.

    Makes sense. I originally wanted a female but after talking with people, I ended up getting a male. Mainly because of the heat cycle and I personally like the idea of having the male confidence.

    Females typically grow a stronger attachment to the owner and males are more territorial. I’m sure your other dog will adapt and put the new guy in his place.

    Is yours neutered? I don’t know enough about the heat cycles and what not to comment on that but I’ll take your word for it. But ya, he does well with pups and smaller dogs. Obviously won’t be sharing crates or food bowls or anything so it’ll all be new stuff for the new pup as well. As with your shepherd cattle dogs are super smart so he’ll be needing a lot of training and structure

    No, I’m not planning on neutering him until he’s at least 2 years if I ever do. It all depends on what happens. IMO, it’s a very important development period for him and I don’t want to alter that.

    I have no experience with heat cycles myself, this was all based on horror stories from other people who’ve dealt with it. Haha
