Krookz you don't have sliders?!?

 

well stay tuned tomorrow for pictures of the first FULL set of skids! got them test fitted on my truck this evening but was to dark to take any pictures..

also for those who are interested in the skids stay tuned as i plan on running a group buy starting in a week or two..

 

well here's a few quick shots of the skids..










also for those who feel they really don't need the middle skid, heres a few shots of just the tcase skid.. you can see how it totally wraps around the crossmember thus protecting it from damage.

correct... the exhaust crossover must be moved up and behind the tcase for this to fit. other than that the skids are just a bolt on process, there is no drilling and or cutting involved.

 

also just thought of it... i haven't tried it yet, but the urd crossover pipe would probably fit fine as well..

yup yup.. thrown some paint on them today.

 

Any chance of making it so the bolt head isn't so exposed? They look like a rock could gnarl one of those pretty good. These do look awesome!

 

well pretty much the deal with that is no matter what the bolts will get gnarled up from scraping on them. i've seen ones with flush mount bolts that take allen wrenches and they end up getting mashed up and you can't hardly get the wrench in to loosen them anymore. these are 1/2" grade 8 bolts so even if you drag on them you should still be able to get a wrench on them to loosen them up easy enough.

plus the head is large enough that if you scrape it up good you should be able to get a pair of vise grips on them good as a second option.

Yea I understand. I had to use my Craftsman bolt extractors on my stock rear bolts because they were mashed up. Doesn't seem like there is any other way to keep it so flat.

 

What do you suggest to protect the frame rails? I rub a lot on them when going over steep crests and I don't have any paint in some spots.

 

yea i mean they could be recessed like the bolts on the front skid but then the skid itself would have to hang down lower to make room for that. we'll be giving these a thorough test in a few weeks and i'll be able to report if there is any problem with scraping them up but they should be good to go.

 

you won't hurt them rubbing on them. mine are scraped all to crap from dragging over rocks. just remember to touch up the paint every now and then and you should be good.

And now that I think about it the only people who make frame rail protection seem to be DIY-ers.

 

well typically the frame is tough enough to take the hits, just knocks the paint off. i never worry about scraping on mine.

and i hear ya on the sliders.. have to get to beding tube first though.

haha.. well luckly the only reason to take them off is to service the transmission or tcase so its not that often that they need to be messed with.
