I have an 85. 22r as well. Love this truck, you did find a gem for sure.
If your trucks running great, I’d leave it. A Weber is easier to tune, it’s just an idle speed and air/fuel screw to adjust. Clears up the engine bay too of a lot of vacuum hoses.

Oh hell yeah! That's awesome.. I'm excited they are the same then. I can pick your brain!

Got ya. It does look clean. The truck cruises like a champ, but if I try to give it anymore thsn half throttle, it just bogs down, almost like it's flooding out. One time last night, I was waiting at a light, and it started to idle rough, had to keep revs up. After that, it was fine. I think the carb just needs to be tuned. So I'm curious if the weber would be worth it.

It does! The driver side ducting needs to be replaced, (just going to get some flex ducting) and the AC vents could be replaced.. a couple of them have broken slats. Other than that, it blow hard and pretty cold. Enough that last night I had to turn it down. Lol

It did seem to get a little warm while sitting in the parking lot, running, with the as AC on. Nothing too bad, not definitely started rising. Maybe a needle width or two away from the top white line. Cruising it's fine. Later in the evening it was fine, while sitting.

It goes up on the rack Monday to get a little inspection from the shop I use 2 doors down from work. Good guys and know Toyotas. I'll go from there after I find out all the details. Excited to get to see under it easily.. this low thing is definitely different.. haha.

Do you have to smog? If not, check out the LCE egr block off plates. It gets rid of more hoses. The rough idle could be a vacuum leak.

Regisitering it today actually.. out of Phoenix.. so it won't need emissions.

ALL the hoses have been replaced. I don't think it's a vacuum leak. He did say when he had to do emissions, it failed the first time, he tuned the carb right there to bring the idle up, and it passed. It does idle high when the AC is on. And that was the problem. With the AC on it increases the load. I think it just needs to be tuned better. I feel like it's getting too much fuel. I'll find out Monday when we can dig into it.

Remove the valve cover and check the timing chain and see if it’s hitting the case. It can wear and leak coolant into your oil. Only design flaw of the 22r.

Drove it from Chandler up to visit my family towards Prescott. Made it up the I-17 no problem. Climbed in 4th gear and even 5th with some momentum.

Took it to a car show yesterday morning and had quite a few people talk to me about it. Such a cool and fun truck. Gets attention from young kids to older guys who drove em 30 years ago.

Registered it after that.. using my parents address up here in Yavapai.. and then went with a Historical plate. 5 years reg plus special plate. 134 bucks.. good for 5 years and no emissions! Insurance is 7 bucks a month. Lol

Dropped off my 2nd set of Meshies to the wheel shop yesterday too.. and I think I decided on a color. Powder coat color code is "Trans Copper 2". I think the copper will look good with the truck. The plate will be copper, and have red accents.. iil be doing red accents around the truck as well. Copper and red. AZ FTW!

Copper should be cool man. That’s a sweet little whip. Aren’t you supposed to leave the daily stock man?? Hahaha just messing, I’d be the same way.

What’s next for the OG taco? Bumper time since it’s off daily duty?

    Thanks Dude!

 I know, I've been catching flak for it all weekend from my Family. haha..

It just did the 200 mile trip no problem. Did start getting warm right when I pulled off the 101 onto Chandler.. But I was just cruisin 80 for the last hour and half. it gets a full inspection tomorrow, gonna leave it with them for the day and check it out on the rack at the shop next door to work.

..and just wheels for now! lol I just didnt like the fact they were staggered and mismatched. everything else I'm ok with (paint defects, patina, etc.) and also, I think nice fancy wheels will be a good start to the eventual Resto-Mod project. Plus I like the fact its re-purposing and will be custom for relatively cheap.

honestly.. nah. its gonna chill how it sits for awhile. just gonna use it for camping, wheeling, etc. weekend toy.

the other big thing the new minitruck does... is help me appreciate the Taco so much more. I stop taking it for granted.

That's a dope little truck! I was looking for something similar until I went with a Supra. As for rims I say gold the teal is just too much
