so i bought a 2.7 L I-4 Tacoma TSS (all terrain tires) 2-wd double cab on Thursday of last week. i drove it to work on Friday. 90 miles round trip. drove it to houston on Saturday 400 miles round trip. so 500 miles on the truck. i was not impressed nor was the wife with the roughness of the truck. didnt seem like a smooth ride at all. almost like a roller coaster. i call the dealership today and they said i could trade it in. my issue is how much value did i lose in that truck. is it worth it to trade it in, will the negative equity be an issue. would you trade in for a newer model or go ahead and go with a cheaper pre-owned...

You'll definitely take a financial hit. This is the reason its always best to take a new vehicle for a LONG test drive before signing any papers. I would check your tire pressure if the ride is harsh.

If you really want to trade it, speak to the dealer. It wont hurt anything and that's the only way to know for sure what they want to give you for it.

Not to give you crap, but your test drive and the 90 mile trip didn’t give you a good taste of the ride?

You’re going to take a good hit on the trade. Dealers will have to sell it as a used vehicle which means none of the Toyota incentives will apply. You could always talk to your dealer but call around to others as well. Some dealers will value a certain trim higher.

If the numbers don’t work, first, try lowering the PSI in your tires. Mine were almost at 40 from the dealer. If that doesn’t work, pick up some Tacoma TRD OR take off’s on Craigslist. Tire size should be a little bit bigger than yours, which should smooth out the ride some.

Next, adding some weight to the back would also help. Some sandbags or maybe this is a good opportunity to buy a shell.

    Good luck.

Did you but it used or new? If used, the hit should not be quite as bad.

Personally, I would try to figure out why it rides rough. Prolly something simple. But if you just don't like it, yes you will take a sizeable hit.

Keep in mind it’s a 4500lb truck with larger wheels than a car and leaf springs in the back. It’s meant to do work, haul heavy loads, off road use, etc. Everything a Cadillac doesn’t.

I need to edit that. Your dealer should figure out why it rides rough.

The offroad shocks would help a lot, and they sell for pretty cheap on craigslist.

I agree with you. I only have less than 200 miles and feel the same way. My 2007 was much smoother. I would look at the Stumble issue on the TSB's. It may effect your truck also.

its a sucky feeling. its like i know that i just put on 500 miles and if i was to trade it in, i would be losing about 5-6 thousand in value.

Its a truck...If you want something smoother get a ridgeline, I've spoken to someone who does trails, owned a tacoma, a tundra, a rubicon and now a 2018 ridgeline and he loves the shit out of it. He said its capable of trails and only needs tires aired down and he's ready to go.

If this is all about ride quality rather than performance, which you should have known when you bought the 4cyl then its a simple fix.

Upgrade the shocks to softer or firmer ones, whatever your preference is.

I had the SR and it felt fine, maybe a factory defect? Try test driving another SR and see if you feel a difference, if you do then it would be covered under warranty.

I don’t know where my original comment went, but what does “TSS” stand for? If you got a TRD Sport, the ride will inherently be a little stiffer than a TRD Off Road or a bade SR model.

EDIT: never mind, OP started 6 identical threads.
