Yes. I used my dremmel to cut a notch in the head on Friday night but still couldn't get it to budge. Jason was planning to weld a nut to the head of the bolt and use a ratchet to remove it. After looking at it he was skeptical because the OEM rack has so much plastic shrouded around the bolt head. He was worried about melting the rack and/or breaking the head off if it was cross threaded. Fortunately, I talked him into trying the weld technique and he was able to get it done. He immediately got the ratchet while it was still hot and it came off perfectly. :woot: Caused a little damage to the rack around the bolt but nothing too bad.

Edit: If anyone is in the market for an OEM rack with some nominal melting near one of the bolts (not visible when the rack is mounted on the truck) I will sell it for $100 (MSRP $340 new).

A snorkel, is that really necessary?

Soon I'll have a 4" diameter intake with a 7 to 9" long filter, all black of course.

depends. If you leave your fender liners in, then most of the water crossings we have are mild (unless you are one of those puddle smashing #forthegram instalanders). Its mainly for the dust when following, but you can get a box of oem filters for cheaper than a snorkel and bang them out at camp on dusty days.

remove your liners and not a lot is protecting your fender well intake .

My LT on 35's runner did have a crossing last winter that went over the hood, and I would have had a brick if I didnt relocate.

I don't know about the rest of you, but if you're going through water that's higher than your motor, I wouldn't be doing it in a nice truck that has expensive electronics and carpet for that matter.

toyota door seals are nice. buddies jeeps always leak but never a leak in a toyota. the electronics always worry me, nice bow wave can help you for a bit there. but that intake in the fender well is always a bad idea, you can hydrolock in hub deep if driving the wrong way.

I mainly did it for cleaner air while in the dust. Intake would get so many rocks and dirt in it (open fender liners)
