What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

You sure there's nothing else wrong with them? Might be better off buying a new set versus shipping them somewhere to find out they're trash.

Even if it's just that, add the parts into a standard rebuild and you'll be at $300 a shock easy.

 

Amazon has an inexpensive Koyo radiator for our tacos.
Edit: just saw the posts mentioning the Denso, that might've been what I was thinking. It's been a couple years since I did this.

Got my ARB bumper front bumper and Warn winch mounted today. I couldn't rent an engine hoist and this whore wasn't going to wait. It's a good thing that I don't skip leg day because I just dead lifted that pig on to the mounts. I did wrap the body with blue painters tape and foam. I got most of the interior back together now, I just need to put the door panels back on, but I need a few parts before I do.

 

I haven't made that argument, maybe revalve capabilities. If anyone thinks they're saving money by getting something rebuildable they're fooling themselves. I paid $150 per shock to rebuild mine plus new bearings, which could have bought me another set of OMEs.

You're paying for performance.

The other problem is, if you let them go to long between rebuilds, you can completely trash them, especially in areas where corrosion is an issue.

Even my blown icons rode nicer than billies and stock, but rebuilt icons kicked blown icons ass everywhere.

 

No. Don't want to invest in a good spring compressor and a nitrogen setup. Otherwise I would.

I just ordered this one, but haven't received it yet. I have auto trans. I trust Denso for any part. They provide so many factory installed parts, I don't see how you can go wrong with them. Undoubtedly their quality programs must meet Toyota stds.

Hooked this thing up. Now come fall hunting I can see thru river crossings better than this last August.

 

Truck has a gremlin and I think it’s the ScanGauge.

Driving home Saturday on I85 I flash my headlights at someone to merge in. The radio stops playing sound. Wondering if it’s a coincidence I flash them again. Truck acts like it’s going to die, radio loses sound again then the volts on my ScanGauge, which typically run between 13.9-14.2 start bouncing all over the place between 12.3 and 16.9. Pull over check under the hood, nothing visibly wrong with battery or alternator. Cut it back on, drive another hour home without issue.

Tonight I get in the truck to move it. Curious, I flip the headlights on and off. No issues. Do yard work for an hour, get back in to start it and move it back. The damn ScanGauge is somehow on trying to connect WITH NO KEYS IN? How the fuck? Battery dead.

 

I feel like I’ve read similar stories in reviews... wouldn’t be surprised.

 

Yeah I remember doing mine holding it up while a slow bitching old man (a.k.a my dad) was putting the bolts in I held it up for 5 minutes before putting it down. And using my neighbors engine hoist. Then listened to him insult me for using a hoist cause I couldn't hold it up anymore as I put the bolts in the mounts myself in 30 seconds. Luckily he lived a quarter mile away so I made him walk home lol.

 

I’m still trying to figure out how it cut itself on. Damn thing’s possessed, I’ll have to call an exorcist for my truck.

In all seriousness though, having a vehicle trying to die on the interstate at 70 mph is scary as shit.

 

After 45 minutes hooked to the Camry battery to jump and two attempts couldn’t turn over. Gave up, go to push it back in the driveway. The little lady is steering, halfway through the dash lights come on (key was engaged to unlock the wheel). Turns over and make it into the driveway.

Any ideas where to even start looking? Other than the ScanGauge there is no aftermarket electronics on here.
