I think they replace the entire assembly.

Pictures of the new unit could clear the confusion.

On the notice it says it will take about an hour. Dealership said it might take all day and tried to fix me up with a rental but there is a mall right next door so I figured I'd walk around for a while. It was done in 2 hours.

So, I thought they fixed mine when I took it on for the 20k service. Got a call last week telling me Parts are in, today I called to try to schedule a time, and was told it's already been done. So, I don't have a freaking clue, but neither do they at this point. In all fairness, I wasn't able to stay on the phone for them to figure out what's up, as I tried to call between classes and students showed up out of control.

Double check your paperwork to make sure the new part they put in is the re-engineered part and not just the previous version they just had on the shelf. I had mine replaced at 11K miles and it broke again at 24K miles. By then the new part number was available for order. Check out my post on it for the part numbers.

Check my post below. My guess is they initially fixed it by replacing it. Then the re-engineered part became available. Check my post and make sure the paperwork lists the new part number and not the last.

I would just have it replaced and be done with it. It is very likely to fail. Mine did at 11K and then again at 24K miles. Check out my post for part numbers.
