Yeah but it's not like a menu or anything. You just press the cruise control button for 2 seconds to get to the regular (non-radar) cruise control. This video shows what I mean. The second half shows how to do it with the stalk.

PCS malfunctioned again. This time I experienced brake issues. Driving 10-15 miles in traffic when brake started doing the ABS shuffle and alerts for PCS, ABS, and BSM popped up. Freaked me out. Truck is at the dealer now for the next several days for a bad sensor. Case was generated with Toyota and I got a loaner. I'll be updated Monday.

Feeling bummed about your situation OP. I’m on the other side of the fence and the post above nails the 16D in one blow. I’ve been using the default setting for sensitivity, but recently changed it to the highest setting to see if there would be a difference. There is for sensitivity. First time the system saved my skin it was on default and in freeway stop and go stuff. It was a bit late and the brakes hit somewhat hard. In the most recent mode, being the most sensitive, I was blown away on how it worked in the most recent situation. Since I’ve changed it, a couple of weeks ago, it has worked just like the default setting. With circumstances much like you described, except not being in cruise control. It has only warned me. It never intervened. Well, this past Thursday was a good feel day for the system. I was in stop and go light to light traffic going home from work. At one point, I reached for something as I had my left foot lightly on the brake as we neared a stop light. I drive left foot on brake right on gas. Knowing I was coming to a stop, as I quickly reached over to grab whatever it was, I felt my left foot gentlly depress on the brakes which caused me to look ahead. I didn’t do it, I thought. When I reached over, I was probably about 20’ away from the vehicle. I actually would have expected slamming on the brakes, however, I was not that close to the vehicle in front, I’d say 15’ by the time I was aware of the total situation. I then took control by pressing on the brakes more. As stated above, if the system detects movement in the steering wheel, or pressing of the brake system, TSS will give up control to you.

Perhaps you can ask the dealer to swap a grill with a different radar?

This is great insight to the system. I’ll see what the response is come Monday. Hoping it’s just a quick sensor replacement.

Unfortunately there are hiccups to all systems. Overall, the toyota engineers did a good job on the Tacoma, with the exceptions of all known issues described here on the 3rd Gen forum. Not directed at OP as his original question was a different topic, but the thing not to do is to become complacent with driving and expect the TSS to react perfect in every situation. I know, easy to say but hard to do, or sometimes not paying attention to do. :anonymous:

OP, buena suerte with your truck. Hope all goes well in the end. I’m enjoying this truck more and more as the days go by, most particularly the drivetrain.

Thanks, much appreciated. Once this is resolved, I can be back to enjoying the truck as well.

Curious to know if the dealer was able to solve your problem? I'm experiencing a very similar thing in mine, it started just a few days after getting my truck new. I've had the PCS Malfuction warning and the Clean Sensor warning even though the sensors appear clean. It happens almost every time I drive.

I had a bad hub seal that caused the malfunctions. Toyota replaced the seal, speed sensor, and hub assembly. Everything has been fine since then.

My truck has had the same alerts for a little over a week now. I don’t have the ABS alert just the pre collision system malfunction alert and as of this morning the lane departure malfunction alert came up. Dealership already tried to calibrate it and couldn’t so they’re ordering a new sensor. Think that will solve the issue since those are the only 2 alerts I am getting?

For those experiencing problems, I think it’s worth mentioning if your grille is an untouched OEM that came with your truck or if you changed it to say a PRO grille and if you did, whether you are using an OEM garnish or fabricated your own and/or if you have a lift but have not recalibrated the sensor...this would help because there are some ding dongs on this forum who have Mickey Moused their garnish for looks or cost savings but don’t get the concept of sonar deflection. I am not saying this is the case here with anyone who has posted in this particular thread, but it does help when getting and looking for feedback from members on probable causes.

I think a new sensor might be what is needed. Hopefully it pans out.

This is a known issue. The sensor isn’t sealed very well. So water gets in the sensor and damages it. The dealer had replaced mine 2 times already. And it’s doing the same thing again. So you know I only have 2800 miles on my truck. I’m on my 4th repair for this issue. Can we say lemon law time. This is so disappointing. I bought the truck because of the safety system. I should have bought the Honda Ridge Line instead. I feel I made a big mistake.

Really...wrong forum to be saying that.
I find that hard to believe that you have had 3 bad sensors!

The Honda Ridgeline is essentially a minivan with 4wd. Be sure to grab a box of maxi pads when you buy it. You can even name your new Honda the “Vangina.”

Yes. Now I’m up 4 sensors and replacement of the harness. Now the connector to the sensor. This is a nightmare 3200 miles on the truck.

I ve got an Icon stage 10 kit, SCS Ray10s, and new geolanders sitting in the shop. im scared to lift the truck because that will be their reason for it not working. im livid.

My truck started turning PCS off and back on randomly at 4400 miles. It might would go 20 miles without incident and then when it started it would do it 10 to 15 times in a 3 mile stretch of road. Took it to dealership and showed a video of it happening to them and they replaced the sensor behind toyota emblem and the harness plug in. 300 miles since fix and haven't had it happen again.
