Does anybody's A/C (v6) make a clunking grinding'ish noise when the compresser engages? Just want to see if its normal or if I need to take it to the dealer.

Absolutely normal, some trucks do it, other owner trucks don't. Some have tried spraying WD-40 onto it, and have said it went away. I haven't tried the WD-40 route, I just turn on the A/C at highway speeds and it seems to help.

So you may wanna try WD-40 if it bugs ya enough....

the noise you here is the electronic clutch engaging. its driven by a solanoid so its instant, not slow and smooth. spraying wd40 is probably not the best idea. its oiling a clutch to make it slip so it wont make the engagement noise. if its like my truck, it only makes the noise the first time its been used in a while or in the morning when i just start my truck. it could be likely that condensation from engine heat attracts moisture when you park it at night. the moisture makes surface rust on the surface opposite the clutch "pad" causing it to make excessive noise when the clutch "grabs" the rough surface. after the initial engagement the surface rust wears off and there is no longer a noise. i would be afraid wd40 would cause the clutch to slip too much and the compressor wont run efficiently
