No offence, but the world actually doesn’t need a bunch of fat-asses sitting in a cruise ship eating all-you-can-eat Philly Cheesesteak while watching The Lion King and coughing up Norwalk Virus, as glaciers calve outside their personal portholes. International shipping is actually fairly important to the world economy and should not be burdened with unreasonable taxes.

I have worked on my fair share of cruise ships and there is no greater waste of fuel I can imagine. The deisel generators in just one large cruise ship could meet the electrical needs of most small cities in North America. All for a no-effort vacation. I say tax the living shit out of cruise ships, and use the revenue to work on better technologies for freighters to run cleaner and burn less fuel.

    Just my two bits.

So... in another thread somewhere online (Lexus Enthusiasts)... toyota has yet to drop 3 or 4 new power plants.
People were gauging twin turbo V8, Larger displacement V8 and lastly,... straight 6 Diesel.

I dont know the credibility of the information, but take it as a grain of salt.

Edit: may drop new info on paris auto show or Tokyo auto show. Who the fuck knows.

Can someone answer a simple question for me?

What would the advantage be for Toyota to provide a light duty diesel for the US Market?

    Thanks in advance.

Both of these comments are basically spot on.

If there were to be a diesel, it would likely be sourced from their subsidiary, Hino, and it would likely be focused on MPG rather than TQ, and as such, would likely be too lethargic to get the pass for US customers. We already know that they are planning electrification for the entire lineup by 2025, so that seems like the more likely investment at this point. I think it's a couple of years too late to bring a diesel to market and still be able to get a significant return on that investment before the market shifts.

If corporate Tacoma browses the third gen forumns often. There is no way they would make a diesel.
    I could hear it now.....
    what is that ticking noise?
My TRD exhaust tip has black soot all over it.
The stealership wants $______ for new injectors.
Is there a TSB so I don’t have to plug the truck in during the winter?
The DEF filler doesn’t come with a cap holder.
Let’s not forget the turbo.... probably be the mother of all complaints...
    ( I’d buy one for sure:spending::D)

This is well said. MB dropped diesel sales in passenger vehicles in the states due to low volume of sales, cost of getting the engines emissions compliant & cost of warranty claims. Toyota is good at keeping it simple & todays modern diesel engines are not. They sell plenty of Tacomas with the current powertrain & are not losing out on market share due to Colorado having a diesel option. I would bet we will never see a diesel Tacoma in the states. I would like to see a 4 cylinder turbo petrol engine though offered.

    1. Low end torque
    2. Extended fuel range
    3. Better MPG's

Oddly enough those are the three main complaints from 3rd gen gas owners which a diesel version would fix.

    They are? News to me.

I do agree the extended range would be welcome. But at what cost? All the emissions garbage to deal with. Spendy maintenance. Noise and smell. Hassle of finding diesel stations. Higher buy in cost.

No thanks. If I ever move to Australia, maybe I'll look into one.

And the added cost of a diesel option, nothing is free.
What is the added cost of the diesel option in the Colorado/Canyon 4 or 5K?

Not so much from the 2.7 owners, but the majority of complaints come from the 3.5 owners. That's why these aftermarket tunes like OVTune and SSP were created. Owners were also complaining about lower mpg's if they mashed the pedal to make the most of the lack of torque. There are threads all over pointing this out.

I do agree that maintenance will be more including DEF refills, but there's always a sacrifice for something.

And.....people see what they want to see.

I think the 3.5 is a nice little engine, and the 6 speed AT plays nicely with it.

Last....RIP diesel engine, and the gas engine will be gone soon therafter too (imo).

I really wish they would come out with a diesel. Not because I have any interest, but it will shut the whiners up and they will see that a diesel really is nothing special.
