I've been reading a bunch of tire threads lately and I'm liking these tires too, but dropping 4mpg isn't something I'd want.

Did you calculate based on the odometer? Larger tires affect the readings. I think like 3% for the 265/75/16 so not much but the odometer will read less than actual mileage. Do tire shops recalibrate the speedometer when you change sizes or up to you?

Did you get LT or SL? If LT maybe the weight is affecting things more than the slight size increase or probably both.

My guess then is the heavier E tire is more the cause of the lower MPG and the more sluggish feel. At least that's my hope. I want to size up to the 265/75/16 but will likely stick with an SL tire.

Drove around quite a bit lately. Road noise is not an issue. With AC and radio off you can hear them slightly but not bothersome at all. They seem to be really good in the rain so far as well. I'm very happy with the purchase.

I'm interested in these as well. I can't tell how exactly these compare to the Duratracs. It seems like the Duratracs might be more aggressive, but they look pretty close to me.

Echo the above statements.....I’m hoping others will chime in that have these tires or I will go with the Duratracs when the time comes

3in rough country suspension lift. 285/70r17 GY UltraTerrains on 2016 4runner wheels. Also have 2005 DCSB tacoma prerunner. Currently stock, working on 4x4 conversion then will get lift and bigger tires.
I have run a set of 33x12.5 duratracs for years before selling my old truck. Got a used set in 285/70r17 on my 4runner currently, have always loved them but later this week I will be fitting a set or the new ultra terrains in a 285/70r17 from the looks of them side by side i am excited to see how the new tires perform in comparison.

I just drove 3 hours on my Ultra Terrains. Great wet and dry traction and quiet on the road. They totally transformed the look of my Sport. I don't regret getting these tires at all. Also, Discount Tire gave me 280 for the Toyo A30's that came on my Sport. It was a no brainer for me.

Did you ask Discount Tire if they were interested in your tires or did they just make an offer to buy them when you went in for the new ones?
Just curious, as I only deal with DT and have inquired about some Duratracs. They haven’t mentioned wanting my stock tires? They only have 1200 miles on them so far....

I’m going to stop by DT on my way home today and hopefully they will have the same display. Thanks for the side by side pic....

Mine had 12,000 miles on them. I asked them if they would buy them from me since they were still really good tires.

nice.....thx for the side x side pic.......

have a chance to unload my MB 352's & Cooper AT3's next month

    AT3's are a smooth running tire.....have 7K miles on 'em.....but

have never been happy with the non aggressive sidewall & appearance

So.....giving the new Goodyear's a very close look...DTD Black Friday week sales

    :fingerscrossed:

When I asked DT about these vs the Duratracs they said that the ultra would be better on road and more ideal for someone who drives a fair bit on paved roads but also wanted something that would perform well off road and look more aggressive too. Seems like the best of both worlds to me. As soon as I can dig up the scratch I'll be getting these.

    around the world
they look nice in person, tread is nice and soft
the only drawback that i notice is their sidewalls
the sidewalls seem very thin, thinner than duratracs and thinner than coopers ats that were on display as well, bfgs sidewall was THICK to the touch compared to the rest of the all terrains
we'll have to see as people will have more experience with them first hand

oh and big question that i've seen on various forums and no answers...where are they made?
they are made in Canada at least the size i saw on display which is a big plus imo
