I mean i bean is way stonger then IFS and you get tons of travel

Ford swap from sold axle to i beam back in the day for better ride quality but still keeping the strength of a solid axle. For the most part

I think we're both kinda right, lol

I was just being sarcasic about the tread wear since that was obviously a race truck and they change tires every 40 miles anyway, but serious about it being a generally inferior design because of the goofy and extreme changes in camber.

Yeah, you can get gobs of travel from an I beam, but it seems like the only real advantage is that its cheaper. From some of the articles on the subject the pros would rather have true IFS if they could build whatever they wanted from the ground up and weren't limited by an existing chassis or class rules, etc...

From what I've read, people seem to think that the single mount location for the I beam is stronger (although only marginally so) than a conventional IFS, I guess I'm just not sure how that would work. Aren't more mounting points better to disperse the forces over a wider area?

Well, yeah, but that's like saying IFS is popular to do with Tacomas.

It's what our trucks come with, lol...

    1960's technology at it's finest...

Rangers came with ifs but had a torsion bar. So to LT its alot of work either way to stay ifs or i beam.

I believe there is a guy on here with a 4wd i beam setup on his tacoma

Im not saying it’s perfect. And for a daily driver its dumb.

But on a dedicated off road rig its fine.

Meh. Sure, it's "fine". In the end, it's still just the bastard child of a 1960's Ford solid axle and IFS.

I think I'm going to make a "say no to I beams" patch, lol...
