Having an older nex 8200 in my other vehicle,

The way to do it is hooking it up to your phone and using Android auto or carplay. The built in nav cant touch google maps in terms of accuracy or traffic info and detours. You can even use waze. The headunits GPS augments your phones receiver if it loses a signal. But back to the point, android or apple do voice commands for destinations wonderfully.

Nice, thanks for the info. So using Android auto would mean a hard/wired connection right?

Your phone has to support the wireless connection also. Not all phones do yet.

Yes, the USB port is functional, but doesn’t supply a great deal of charging current to your mobile device.

The AUX Input below the USB isn’t reconnected. I could’ve figure that one out, but didn’t bother with it since I never use it.

I have a Note 8. Not sure if my phone supports wireless connection for Android auto but I am able to mirror my phone to the head unit wirelessly.

I found out the other day that if you're running Android Auto certain cell phones will not link up with the mirroring feature. This is a recent problem after a software update and now LG phones and Samsung phones won't work correctly

LOL, that's probably considered a "feature."

The audio shop I got mine installed just 2 days ago my brand new Galaxy Note9 will no longer mirror image to the HU . it worked awesome for the first day but now the Pioneer HU won't allow access

The shop owner called his pioneer rep to find out what's going on and the said Pioneer is rewriting a software patch that'll be released in a week or so . They said they're being slammed by not happy phone calls

Losing navigation on the cluster display would be a dealbreaker for me. Otherwise this seem to be an incredible head unit.

I have an 8200 and love it.
Wondering if upgrading to 8400 is worth it ?

Looking at nav on a big screen sure beats toggling through a small display on the cluster.

Not necessarily. As I stated earlier, the cluster shows you what to look for next, when you just want to know that much. Sometimes (e.g. heavy rain, traffic) it's easier to glance down quickly at the cluster than look over and make sense of the map.

Not unless the wireless Android/Carplay means that much to you. I’d wait to see what next year brings.

    8200 already has that.
    Appradio is what changed/added.

Really? Didn’t know that. I was under the impression the “w” in the AVIC-W8400NEX was the wi-fi connectivity which enabled the wireless Carplay and Android capability.

My 4400 connects wirelessly all the time with android auto.
    I usually cable it though.
I meant 4400nex previously, my bad. Which is w4400nex. Too many numbers/letters.

I thought we were comparing the 8200 to the 8400. I didn’t think the 8200 offered wireless Android Auto or wireless Carplay.
