I have a 2017 TRDOR automatic, running stock tune with the latest TSB update but I don't find the truck to have smooth, pleasant drive. I've heard some guys say that there is a night and day difference driving the stock tune when using 87 compared to 91 octane.
Would it be worth the money to buy OVtune and continue to use 87 octane or would I feel just as much, or more, of an improvement by keeping the stock tune and running 91 octane?

Are you running 87 or 91 with the tune?

OVtune address so many things including the shifting problems the Tacoma has. 91 on stock vs 87 on OV isn’t even in the same galaxy by comparisons sake.

So you think OVtune with 87 octane would result in a much better drive than simply switching to 91 octane with stock tune?

Well I tried that today, filled half a tank of 91 just for the lols and I do notice a slight improvement.

Try it yourself is all I can say.

I'm definitely serious as I have no first hand experience with a tuned tacoma.

I am going to ovtune 87 as soon as I get my information and hear back from OVtune, I can let you know how it goes--hoping for the best.

And you can try the 91 or 93 versions of the tune for a tank or two to see if the increased power is worth it to you. It's all included in the purchase, you'll have access to a complete set of files.

    Flash and go!

Caveat - make sure you have the appropriate fuel in the tank for the 91/93 files lol

Can you explain why you are getting the tune? What issues are you hoping to resolve. And yes, please let me know how it works for you.

I was about to post that link lol..

It really is the best place to see the complaints about the stock calibrations and what the tune did to rectify them.

OP, there are some that will chime in and say there is nothing wrong with the truck and that you're just whining.

That's OK, if they like their truck the way it is then all the power to them. You obviously want something more/different, and since you already have the TSB that means OVT.

    Good luck!

You really think 91 octane will give better performance for a stock truck tuned for 87?

Conventional wisdom would say this is a correct statement. But with these trucks it simply is not. My truck on the stock tune didn't have the slight miss feeling, didn't vibrate as much, was smoother, fuel pump was quieter running 93 on stock vs. 87. I still went to the tune and still prefer 93 tuned though 87 tuned is a major improvement over 87 stock.

I dislike the way the truck runs and drives. Throttle response is garbage and changes constantly which irritates me. Plus the constant shifting where I live due to hills--the tune is supposed to help all of that.
