pretty much agree... my FIL has dually diesels every truck for years since the 80's and replaces with a new one every 2-3 years. a run of trucks since early 2000's had all these issues, one after another, no dealer fixes, cannot effectively service, just PITAS always of one kind or another. he had diesels for all the advantages you think of with diesels, but those advantages are mostly gone from consumer vehicles and designs have not been correctly updated, so diesels have become a huge issue especially for that category of truck. he finally gave up and is now on his 3rd gas burner, but still the 3500 duallies.

No spark plugs on a diesel. Not even a glow plug on a Cummins.

Regardless Bill, no one ever claimed diesels were cheaper to maintain. The Cummins are easy to wrench on......big difference.

I'm all for a diesel option. diesel is way cheaper here, no emission laws to abide by so we just delete all the gimmicky shit. I would totally trade up for a diesel 3rd gen.

    I don't.

There will be no Diesel engine of any kind in a US-market Toyota truck. If for some reason one does make it stateside, I guarantee you will be able to drive it a million miles without touching a spark plug.

It will be deemed a normal characteristic of the vehicle.

I guess the hypothetical diesel engine noise will override the hypothetical rear howling noise, and then hypothetically we can argue about Toyotas hypothetical lead in quality and reliability. Hypothetically speaking of course

Hypothetically, will that have a hypothetical impact on the hypothetical resale value? Hypothetical minds want to know

hey at least its been proven that the rear end howl isn't because of lack of quality, all u have to do is turn up the radio when your feathering the throttle intently listening at 62mph and it magically disappears

My buddy who works at Toyota told me the diesel Tacoma is ready for release but they have been struggling to find a gas pedal design that works well with cowboy boots.

I don't have much of a basis for comparison other than my brothers 5500 dodge with a Cummins, but he's had an oil pan ($2200), transmission ($4000) and power steering system($1000+ if they can find the box it needs). All on a 2011 truck with 81,000 on it. It does haul the groceries for sure, but it sure isn't cheap to maintain.
