You sir have an awesome dealer!! I’ve been nothing but calm and patient. Hasn’t gotten me anywhere. My dealer didn’t want to help since Toyota said no. My dealer and a Toyota engineer confirmed its the same howl that the TSB helps with. They still wouldn’t help ha I ended up installing it myself but i still have the howl. I even sound deaden the entire back seat area.

I find that dubious at best. I had the tsb done on my truck and it was fixed. As far as I know they changed leafs and added dampners, not replace the transmission...

It just sounds like he's trying to kick the can down the road.

Another cross post update for the whine/howl peeps.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...hering-throttle.442341/page-239#post-18834124

So i was busy yesterday at work and never had a chance to call the service manager or Toyota, but they never called me with an update. Just spoke with the SM and he said he feels it is in the tranny. Since another truck on the lot had the same noise he feels it is a trait of the truck and nothing is wrong. I havent been able to reach my rep at Toyota yet to see what they have to say.

I think Toyota is instructing all the SM's to say the same damn thing. That's the same load of BS I just got from my SM too

It’s not just Toyota. Take in any fullsize GM truck or SUV for driveline vibration and almost every dealer will tell you that it’s a normal characteristic of the vehicle and that it’s operating as designed. I got that crap when I lemon lawed by last Yukon XL.

I remember I had a work truck that would whine like a supercharger from the rear when accelerating .
It was something in the diff making noise. Truck had around 270,000km on it no issues just noise lol

I like everything about the truck minus the damn howl, harsh downshifts, and odd shifting. I was just hoping they would bend some feom this.

Keep on them. Don’t ask permission, demand it. Add Akio on the emails and they’ll eventually cave. I’m in the same boat as far as I like my truck and am not sure what else I’d buy. My howl is getting noticeably louder post TSB, so know that that’s not the be all end all fix. It may get some better but mine has never been gone.

I will keep on them as I am not going away. When I told this manage the response from the other dealer with this being a trait, his response was "They like to say that so you go away.".. Up until today, I was thinking of trading it in this weekend on a 4runner or Wrangler... But we'll see..

Hang in there and keep on them. I had the driveline vibration on my second gen. It was terrible. You know, the same gen that supposedly had no issues. LOL. I emailed corporate and Toyoda nonstop until they gave me new leaf springs, new tires at Toyota ‘s expense, steering wheel shimmy, and a few other things. I must admit they finally fixed it but did everything they could prior to that to get me to go away. I was just about to file lemon law proceedings on them and they came through and fixed it. Like many others on here, I’ve been in Tacos for some time, but I’ve also owned my share of other brands of trucks. The Taco works best for my needs but they have not been my most reliable trucks. Or, I should say they have not been my most trouble free trucks. They are mechanically reliable but have engineering issues.

At this point I really don't know what else to do. I have been emailing and calling them since January haha The howl is just a noise, but a very annoying one. Toyota has deemed this noise normal for my vehicle as well. Not normal for TRDs, but normal for SR5s. I don't think I have a leg to stand on since its a normal trait of the vehicle.

Keep trying. Even though I havent been at my case as long as you, I know how you feel. I have a TRD with the noise and I am being told it is a normal trait as well. Although I came across a service manager today that actually seemed to care.

I got 3 buybacks for “normal characteristic of the vehicle” because this is a first line defense for any manufacturer. It’s a lame one too, FWIW. I really wanted to go to trial for my last GM buyback but they caved and bought my Yukon back. Actually, they trade assisted and gave me a brand new one with more options on it for zero out of pocket for me and then had my old vehicle up for sale the next day after we traded it. I’m sure there is some poor guy out there cursing that thing as we speak.

Hey y'all, just wanted to post back with an 'update'. I'm aware there are other, more active threads regarding this issue now, but this is where I originally posted. I got the TSB done a while back with no improvement, so I just kinda put it on the backburner. Decided to change the diff oil today as I'm at around 40k miles and have towed a fair amount. The noise is now pretty well gone. Used Amsoil Severe Gear (per the recommendation of someone else on here) and I can barely hear the whine anymore, even with radio off and windows up. We'll see if this changes with more mileage.

Same viscosity as stock? Amsoil is one of the best out there.

Went with the Severe Gear 75W-90 per recommendations/experiences read on here. I've heard nothing but good things about Amsoil, but have no personal experience up until now.

Nice. I did the same but still howls. I have about 30k miles on the truck and 6k miles or so with amsoil.

I didn’t use severe gear though. Just standard 75-90w.

Might need to try it. I’m a fan of amsoil.
