FYI if you want a "traditional style two bar roof rack" that is much stronger than Thule or Yakima - Two of these extruded bars and 4 smitty mounts. This is what I'm running temporarily until side plates are acquired.

I really like the modular bracket beachboy and barnburner have been developing so that their cabrac will fit on literally anyone's setup. This past weekend though I was browsing some other Prinsu forums and found images of a Prinsu rack that goes on an FJ Cruiser. Has anyone noticed that the design for the rear bracket appears to be super simple and potentially could work as an easy bracket solution for beachboy and barnburners side plates?

It is essentially a simple L bracket with slots that can adjust horizontally on the roof, and vertically on the plate. The plate then has a perpendicular slot that allows the L bracket to sit at a wide variety of angles and still have two bolts holding it on. Could this potentially be used by adding three horizontal slots on beachboy and barnburners side plates where the mounts go, and then having three of these L brackets per side to bolt it to the cab? The forum also shows spacers that can be used to get it nice and close to the roof line from some spacers they picked up at Home Depot for 2 bucks a pair.

I tried looking on the google quick for some L brackets with slots already cut, but didn't have any luck, but could easily be made with a drill, angle grinder/ dremmel.

Anyone have any thoughts on this why it might not work or be a bad idea?

Seems simple and should work depending on height of rack.

Hey @Taconest any chance you have any side photos of the rack? I'm interested and I want to see it's how it looks from a side view of the truck. Anyone have the complete roof rack set from Beachboy and some photos? thanks.

The side plates are not available yet for the cabrac, still in the design phase as mentioned above. In the meantime I was just trying to think of other simple ways I could mount some side plates to the cab. It seems like mounting the rack to the cab is the hardest part so I figured if I could figure out a simple way to do it for cheap I would just cut some side plates if beachboys and barnburners aren’t quite done yet.

I have been looking at building a rack for a little bit now. However I'm looking at getting the weight off of the truck and onto a trailer mainly to use as a base camp set up. Trailer is a M416, think old school military....

Primary concern before ordering material is that I'd like the rack to be raised and lowered protecting what is covered in the bed of the trailer. Doing the rack in a prinsu style paired with the military trailer I think would be very cool.

Any one with concepts to have a rack pivot allowing it to be raised / lowered 25" to 30"????

I believe there are several companies who offer a height adjustable system with struts of some kind. I know several guys have done their own.

i used the smittybilt mounting feet. tent has been on there since i installed it and has done several trips - just got back from a 3000 mile west coast border to border trip - i regularly check it - it all seems fine.
i did have to add a leaf to my dakar leaf pack (had a medium on - now has 8 leaves) with the added constant weight of the tent.

they are super adjustable, not 100% convinced you need all the adjustments, but its useful i guess. it sits just slightly higher than a prinsu would or does i guess (by like 1/2 an inch)

Thinking this is in the DIY arena. I'm looking to go from a stack height of 2" (closed) to 35" (open) with a rack.

Thats pretty tall for struts but maybe a notch system like the lockout poles you slide up and down with strut assistance? It can defintely be DIY but might take some planning. If you look in the trailers thread or RTT im sure there are ideas. Google height adjustable RTT or RTT rack and several sweet videos and pages pop up. Now im interested hahaha.

Hey @BeachBoy, Will there be a 3rd gen caprack design aswell as a 2nd gen? I'm unsure of if or how much of a difference there is between the two?
