What a POS cars... should not have ever bought that crap. No wonder stupid thing is Half French Renault :infantry:
So we have 2005 Quest that my wife loves. We got it since new now it has 23 K miles, car is park most of the winter in the garage because our driveway becomes complete bobsled course and no amount of ESP combined with Blizzaks can get that thing up to home.
Today upon the startup car produced the plum of blue smoke, I tried restarting it and no smoke afterwords but now wife told me she had plum of smoke on start up few months ago.
I am tired of this car and its constant problems.... so I refuse to make any repairs....
I had put my foot down. I rather trade that car for a Land Cruiser with 150K miles on it, that I can easy work on, then continuously troubleshoot this POS

I'm surprised. I always thought nissan was right up there with toyota when it came to reliability. Maybe you just got a bad apple

Parked smoke. Don't worry about it. Oil will slowly leak down the valves if sitting for extended periods of time. It should go away.

Once it's been back in service for awhile it should be just like new again.

Or if it continues then it's a FPOS.

nissan is right up their with toyota. Im thinking there is nothing wrong with the OP's car, it just got some oil in the cylinders from sitting.

Park you Taco nose up on a fairly steep driveway. Start it the next morning and I'll bet you get a cloud of smoke too..... It's a common complaint...

I've been leasing a 2005 Xterra for the last 5 years and I have to say that it's been a great, reliable vehicle for me. The only 2 problems with it are:
    - It's a lease
    - It's not a Tacoma

    That sucks about the smoke.

I had a Pathfinder for about 4 or 5 years before the Taco. It was a great vehicle. Didn't have any issues with it other than regular maintenance until I got T-boned one night and the insurance co totaled it.

No its nissan so it is mounted low to the ground next to the right wheel
My both yotas are park like that and no smoke ever...
Smoke is the last straw i n the string of all crap that is wrong with this car,
Problems with A/C had been for some time, lately tranny seems to be unlocking torque converter on long declines, there is weird metal sound that comes and goes but it sounds like it comes from tranny.
Nissan FSM is as usefull as Haynes manual (honestly I am not sure which one is worst) Nissan service sucks too.
To get anything done on that car you need to be Gary Colman otherwise you won't fit your finger. The whole design under the hood its idiotic, there is no access to half of the engine.
Now I am thinking smoke could be due to stuck PCV valve that is sucking the oil. Since wife told me she got smoke on heavy load on the engine (high gear incline)
My wife says I am spoiled by Toyota. :D( ilike to be spoiled ) Crap is easy to fix, fairly easy to troubleshoot and service guys are as happy to give you correct part as much as they happy to fix themselves. Plus you replace the part and it is fixed 100% not have problem move few inches somewhere else. Not to mention Toyota's FSM is top notch.

Nissan service is run by cronies who call on engine tranny replacement before you even finish describing the problem. I am just ranting at this point wife likes the stupid car so gonna keep it for little longer although that gives me a shills :help:

Nissan went down the drain after Renault bought half of the company and they started dictating what and how things are build.
The only item what supposed to be good is VQ35DE engine but with so many replaced I fail to see how that engine ever come on the 10 best engine list.

Being a mechanic I think the main reason I hate Nissan is because most people THINK Nissan is right up there with Toyota. Nissan is and always was 2-3 steps down as far as quality, reliability, etc. My friend has a Maxima that gives him non-stop probs, co-worker that had to change countless parts on his 03 Frontier and said he'll never buy another Nissan again. I spent a lot on mods on my truck but he spent more just on parts and his truck is stock. And to put the icing on the cake, IMHO Nissans are harder to work on than most any Toyota because they're not engineered as well.

    only two experiences with nissan
1 test drove a frontier thought i would love it didn't whole list of things i didn't like not getting into it.
2 friend of mine went through 3 rear ends in his 07 before getting an FJ in 09 they accused him of "racing" all he did was drive to and from work and tow a boat a half dozen times a year.
When it comes to replace my truck i might look at nissan but i doubt it.

haha well i know what you mean with nissan and toyota. my parents as a toyota previa, and a nissan pulsar.

the previa we got rid of like a year ago with 300,000+ miles on it, blown head gasket, some other minor problems still started up and ran really good for what was wrong. every time we fixed something we never had a problem again.

    now...

    the pulsar was a POS

we got rid of that 11 years ago haha, the dash as cracked to shit, never started up the first time, couldnt stop at a light with it stalling out (it was and auto trany), to pick up up at school my dad had to keep the car rolling as i jumped in haha. the ride was not very good at all, the only thing i did like was the T top :)

    over all yotas are amazing!!

Not those old Quests. Nissan had their bout with the bad quality gremlins around 2000. The Quest, IIRC, was the last of those models.

Last week my Taco with less than 3,000 on the clock sat for a few days and did this and occasionally the 4 Runner will too. When the taco did it my wife just happened to walk out of the garage and was like WTF? I would say a vehicle doing this from time to time if sitting is not unusual. Nothing I am going to fire up my rant machine over. :D
