It's in some landfill in Nevada by now.

My local dump is over an underground rail network. We ship our trash out of state.

Hypothetically, let's say I supercharge my truck. Will that up my towing capacity any amount? @Speedytech7

    No

Just be able to handle your max tow rate (3500lb?) better

Why not? The 3RZ SC should be able to push the stock power output of the 5VZ. I understand towing is limited by stopping power and suspension. I have Tundra brakes and new suspension.

I mean you can probably tow 5k

But im pretty sure it a law that you cant increase your vehicles max tow capacity, but can modify it to help it handle its max tow capacity better.

    I could be wrong

My hitch is rated at 5,000 pounds. I don't see why not.

    Unless I'm overlooking something obvious.

Mmmm, this is a topic of much debate. I'll put it to you like this, either way you're working your engine hard. I'd say yes it will increase it's ability to tow, but you have to have a very safe tune, I'm talking lots of components the state of California considers treasonus and definitely not organic. Towing is hard, it puts your torque load in the low revs through the roof, a prime time for detonation under boost. Plus there are other factors you arent in control of, like your trans gear at any given time. Like towing if you get into 3rd and TC lockup your RPM may be too low for enough torque without boost and with boost the throttle input may be too much to stay in third causing you to drop to second which has no TC lockup so you'll build heat. The boost from an SC is in direct proportion to your throttle input after a certain percentage so if you need to speed up you can't just decide to not boost, and if your load causes your cruiseing to be in boost that could be a heat problem without a rock solid tune. So my verdict here is that without a lot of time, research, and extra non CARB components you shouldn't even begin to consider an SC to increase your towing ease. There's a lot to safe boosting, it's not simple at all, especially with a non tunable ECU. You should begin to learn about a lot of engine function theory and EFI tuning theory if you're gonna chase this rabbit. As is you'd be unprepared to deal with it. Your truck even then shouldn't exceed 3500lbs due to braking capability. Even if your capable of towing it and brakes make it safe the state and your insurance will not abide that if you were to wreck. You have the wrong truck for serious towing, sorry.

Also any additional weight of your truck reduces your towing. Like mine already is more than 1000lbs over its curb weight.

Think about it. The 3RZ Tacoma is identical to the 5VZ Tacoma in exception of the engine. Wouldn't the GVWR match the 5VZ if the 3RZ outputted the same kind of power?

The frames are identical. The brakes and suspension are identical.

I know it's not the right truck for towing. I've towed a few things and it's handled fine, no harm no foul. Just nice to imagine having a good trailer. Thanks for the help.

I guess the 5-Lug will be the tow rig.

Worth noting that 5 lugs regardless of engine are limited to 3500lbs as well. Also you'd have to learn to drive stick with a trailer haha. Probably should learn to back one up first.

Alright the only way out of this I can see is LS swap.

    Or more realistically, 5VZ swap.

Buying a car just for towing is something I don't see doing far far into my future. I guess I'll live with the bed storage for now.

    Mmmm, Cummins Dually.
