Mine is 5500lbs in America and 7000lbs in any other country. I've towed upto 200lbs over the American limit with no problems and it handles itself very well. But I tow long distances rarely, I gone up and down the coast a few times and to South Dakota once. It can do it and I don't worry about it but if I was doing it more regular for some reason I'd get something American. The Sequioa is a better option, upkeep is cheaper and it should be able to tow a decent bit. But it will get abhorrent MPG for sure, even unloaded. But as far as Japanese SUVs go it is likely the most ideal, the LC can tow just as much or more within similar year ranges but they're expensive and complicated.

My Merc E320 has a 5500 pound towing capacity in every other country besides the US, where it has no towing capacity.

Do you think your US spec LC is capable of going up to 7k?

Yeah, I do. Just been busy getting ready for winter. House needs sealed from spiders and other bugs. Also getting the log splitter ready for winter so I can have fire wood. Then there's scouting for wood. Looking for fallen or standing dead trees. Also deer season I need the meat

Yikes I would never tow that much with a car too insubstantial and wiggly. Yeah, the cruiser outfitted with 1FZ and towing package like mine is the same in Europe, remember these are all built in the same Japanese plant (Araco), the diesel verions of mine can tow even more in Aussieland and UK. The limiting factor in the US is always braking first and weight second. It's a legal thing not the vehicle being specd different. I have electric brakes and would never tow much over 2000lbs without them as the cruiser on it's own is a bit over 5000lbs.

You know what, I might just restore that camper shell I have sitting in my yard and use that. I did pay $50 after all.

Fix the broken windows, throw some new seals on, paint it black, and it's a pretty capable thing. Think I want to throw one piece side windows onto it.
