We "think" the new medication that I started a couple weeks back triggered a toxic reaction. His red & white blood cell counts were really low. Was also considering a tick borne virus. I stopped the new meds after only 4 days and started the antibiotics for a week (last dose was Wed AM). He's been back to normal since the weekend.

I don't believe he understands that this isn't the week to push it. Some people just need a little size 12 motivation.

I hope all turns out well....It's tough watching our friends struggle and we can't just ask em how they feel.

Thanks Bill - I think there were multiple things going on all at once that are making a diagnosis tricky. He started that new arthritis medication a couple of weeks back and then began exhibiting the symptoms (lack of coordination, etc). I thought and my Vet thought it was a toxic reaction to the meds, so we stopped it after only 5 days. After the blood work results (which showed low red & white blood cell counts), he also thought it may/could be a tick borne disease, so we started 7 days of antibiotics soon after stopping that medication.

We sort of lost the control by adding the antibiotics to the mix. But only a day after starting the antibiotics, he started acting better and after 3 days was fully back to normal. But the follow up blood work was still questionable. It showed his liver was working hard...which could be infection or a toxic reaction to that medication. Hard to tell if it was the antibiotics or the stopping of the medication that resulted in him getting better. This Wednesday was the last day of the antibiotics and then 2 days later his symptoms return. Now I'm leaning back toward some tick borne disease issue.

I've got a call into the Vet asking if we should just to the 30 day treatment of doxycycline to zap any tick borne infections.

Just got off the phone with my Vet (he's awesome btw). He's in agreement that the antibiotics seem to be the factor here. We're doing the full 30 day cycle of doxycycline to nuke whatever is going on.
