Yeah, but Ford pulled the plug with less than 20 SkyRangers made.

Dodge made slightly more convertable Dakota's than that...lol

Just typical Ford fashion to be late to the party hopping on a fad a tad bit late. That's how we got the SHO.... they commissioned Yamaha to build a motor in the late 80s for a mid engine Fiero competitor... but after developing it sales dropped and they saw that it wouldn't be a winner so they shoved the engines they ordered in their most popular vehicle and called it a special edition.

Chrysler invented the minivan and hit one out of the park! General Motors responded with a 4-wheeled dustbuster...

Also, with only 120hp on tap from a 3.1L V6 mated to a 3-speed automatic transmission, an actual dustbuster had more power than 1990-1991 models!

Also, for some strange reason, the GM "dustbuster" vans were not available with rear A/C for the 1990 and 1991 model years. 1992 seems to be the year that GM removed its head from its ass with regards to these vans.

1992 models not only got rear A/C as an option, but they became the most powerful vehicles in their class with the newly available 170hp 3.8L V6. 1993 models were virtually identical to 1992 models, but for some reason, the 3.1L 6-hamster exercise wheel engine was standard in 1992-1993 models.

The Ford Aerostar, Toyota Previa, and the Chrysler minivans all had rear A/C as an option. Even GM's own Astro and Safari vans, introduced in 1985, always had rear A/C and heat as an option.

The dustbuster vans were redesigned in 1994 and the venerable 3.8L V6 was replaced with the so-so 3.4L V6. The 3.4L was competitive in terms of horsepower, but mediocre in terms of refinement and reliability.

    Haha

You sure know a lot about early minivans. I dig it.

I wish I could convince my wife to get a minivan... I’d never daily it but it’d make our lives easier for trips.

I miss my parents' '04 Honda Odyssey EX!

Ice cold A/C (front and rear), room for 7 people (including the driver, obviously), a rear-seat DVD entertainment system, a surprisingly decent factory stereo system, and a 240hp V6! What's not to love?!?!

My wife and I joked about minivans, and were sure we would never own one.....and then the third child came along....they really are useful people and gear transporters, lol

Wife and I just had our third :anonymous:

We allowed our oldest son invited a friend on a trip we did recently and not thinking it through we walk out to the car only to realize we have six people and only five seat belts... we had to take a second car on an hour long drive for one extra person. :frusty:

One thing about children, they have a habit of growing.

We never understood the people who raved about minivans, but they are very practical for families, especially if you are in the habit of taking road trips.

Congrats on the third, you and your wife are now officially outnumbered.

    Cheers.

My cousin and her husband had their third kid and they were all ready to pay cash for a brand new Honda Odyssey Elite. It boggles my mind my cousin opted for a used 7-passenger Mercedes GL550 (which was more than the new Odyssey and had to be financed). That Benz will not hold its value as well as the Honda would have, and I keep telling my cousin that she's in for a rude awakening once the prepaid maintenance plan runs out...

On the minivan front... Volkswagen routan. Because Germans couldn't bear to design one on their own they just bought one from Chrysler. Turns out to be the most reliable vehicle in their fleet at the time... minus the rotor issues T&C/Caravans of that generation were known for.
