So last sunday i was awakened to this REALLY loud chirping in my room...it seems a large cricket had found its way inside...more than likely as a result of the cold front that moved thru...ANYWAYS...as he sat on my desk chirping away at 3 in the morning...i captured him in a gatorade bottle which i immediately put the cap on...

Now...5 days later I still have the bottle on my desk...the cricket is very much still alive...he will occasionally jump and make the bottle shake a bit

how long can crickets live on 20oz of air and without food?

I read once that if a man is locked in an airtight box, he would die from carbon dioxide poisoning long before he dies from oxygen depletion. If that is true (which I don't know if it is or not) I imagine a cricket doesnt exhale very much, so maybe he could live for awhile.

I guess we will find out. If the cricet is doing wind sprints, it may die early. I have a feeling the cricket is flipping Jeff off on a regular basis.

All I know is that it's very popular in the UK and it's colonies.Apparently games can go on for days and I understand the pakistani's have been dominant for a number of years..........Oh,just a sec,.....we're talking about real crickets?.....

    :D

They are very noisy around here at this time of year and sometimes get in our garage. It seems like they hang out in there for days at a time, but I'm unclear on their respiratory system.

Are they not considered good luck by some Far Eastern cultures?

The cricket is NOT doing windsprints...but possibly giving me the cricket finger

He learned the first night what happens when he plays music...he goes to cricket jail

I think they are considered good luck somewhere...but not in my bedroom at 3am

    **UPDATE**
This morning when I left my house at 0645 the cricket was alive and well...

I returned this evening around 2300...he has since passed away...he is sprawled on the floor of his cell with his legs outstretched...unfortunately NOT on his back

Evidently a cricket can only last for about 6 days on 20oz of oxygen

    pic coming soon

Damn. I was starting to like the little guy. Obviously a case of carbon dioxide poisoning. :D

I hope the future does not bring you bad karma. There are many insects I do not like. Can't say crickets are one of them. Roaches and spiders top the list. It has always been my personal philosophy that as long as a roach or spider respects my little personal space, say 50 feet around me, than I will not nuetralize said roach or spider. The reasons for this are numerous and complex. I wish I could say that I believe in the harmony of nature and respect the little fuckers, but primarily, I believe that if I kill one, there are probably 20 watching me kill their brother and plotting their retaliation campaign. I'm a heavy sleeper; I've never seen a sleeping roach. The mere thought of what a roach colony hellbent on revenge of their fallen comrade could do to me in my sleep makes me vomit in my mouth a little. Hopefully this cricket was a rogue scout and will not become a martyr to the thousands of crickets living outside your window who watched in horror as you harvested his life for your personal amusement/science experiment over a six day period in a Gatorade bottle.

    too late for that now

im of the personal opinion that i do not want to see spiders or roaches...period...out of sight...out of mind

    im down with that too

yep...i took him outside a bit ago and put him in the woods...

now bear in mind that a)i dont mind crickets...and actually like them when im outside on a summer evening...BUT NOT LOOKING UP PORN ON MY COMPUTER AT 3AM

b)i trapped him with the original intent to put him outside, but he found his way in once...i wasnt keen on him coming back in...plus i got lazy and never did release him

no pics out of respect for the family
according to reports though, his name was Jiminy:confused:
